I know their are some generalizations on this but can't find them in the archives. Approximately how much gain in et if you have a 50 lb. weight loss?

General rule of thumb is 1 tenth for every hundred pounds removed, so I would say about 5 hundredths.

Isn't there an ET where this changes? I had heard that this generalization was for 11.00 and slower.

I've found it to be close, even in the low 10's

I found it depends on where the weight is. My car was a tenth quicker after removing my front bumper (33 lbs)...This weight is WAY up front, by removing it I got much better weight transfer, and better 60' times, which made for lower ET's.

Yes there is a point of diminishing returns, same goes for adding horsepower. 10 HP equals about a tenth, to a point. They are not linier.

i had a stock 5.0 mustang years ago that i got goin 13.0s....i wanted to get it in the 12s with the motor completely stock so i removed approx 300lbs off teh car and still couldnt get it in the 12s mind u different day different weather conditions that was the most extreme weight lost situation ive ever tried.ive taken 50/100/150lbs off of some mopars ive owned and same deal maybe a couple hundreds quicker.i believe if most the weight comes off teh nose of teh car that is where most the gains will be seen.

i can tell you this. we recently took 50# (about 20# in beadlocks) off a 2350# door car and saw no difference. i would NEVER have believed you could do that and see no difference

Years ago I had my 340 Dart at the track on Co-driver day which meant you could take a passenger if you had the seat belts and safety stuff. Well I had run 12.15 and then I put my 110 lb wife in the car and ran 12.16. Didn't make much difference which surprised me. Ron

I forgot i did the exact same thing took a 225lbs passager with me for a pass in my 9sec dart and never seen a tenth of diff.i also let someone who was 100lbs lighter than me drive my car(was a seasoned racer)hoping he would go quicker and actually went a couple hundreds slower than me.
