I am building a 440 and I am having a hard time finding pistons. Where is the best place to get them and who has the best prices? It is just going to be a mild street engine. Thanks for the help.

Doubt you could beat Summit for price, maybe try Rock Auto if you are just looking for something in the 9-10:1 range. You don't need anything fancy. What else do you need? Places like Summit, PAW and Jegs sell complete engine kits;

Summit, Jeg's, Competition Wedge & others here, 440Source. I've probably bought from all. Got a killer deal a while back from 440Source, and they also list a lot of info/specs on their website.

I'm not sure what your building. Here are several near zero deck pistons (compression height of 2.06+.)
Sealed power makes a lighter weight version of the Forged 6-Pack L2355 piston called the LW2355 ($410/set from Summit.) On TRWs web site it says the LW piston also uses 1/16" ring pack compared to the L2355 pistons 5/64" rings.
The Hypereutectic piston H143CP is also nice if you don't need a forged piston, and it is only $338/set from Summit.
Keith Black has some Hypereutectic pistons in Flat top (KB237 $442/set), or step head for open chamber heads (KB236 $454/set), but the step head pistons usually require a bit more machining to set the quench height correctly. They also have a domed piston for higher compression ratios (KB363L/R Summit lists them individual Left/Right for $81.97 each = $655/set.)

I guess I should have said I was looking for .060 over pistons. The machine shop has already rough bored the block to be .060 over. I have been looking on line for them and have really only found .055 over. Thanks again for the help.

This is an oops! moment. Didn't see the words "sonic check" anywhere in your posts. Before I bought pistons I'd check and make sure your block is going to hold up. Better to waste the block prep money than to waste block prep AND piston money!

If you're spending $400 or more on run-of-the-mill pistons, throw another couple of hundred in the pot and you can get a semi custom piston that fits your needs. Diamond comes to mind. It usually doesn't cost a lot to make a simple change to a shelf stock piston.

For example, I found that Probe and KB make 440 pistons in 0.060 over.

Then I'd suggest buying from a board member who is a dealer.

Yep, been there. Got a .058 over block & almost all pistons are .055 over as you mentioned. Ended up putting the block under the bench. Speed pro has one as mentioned above but you're going to have to hone it out a little for clearance. Also they way a ton. Not any lighter than the originals. I bought 'em, weighed 'em & immediately sent them back. It was somewhere in the 1125-1150 gram range with pin, I believe.

Honestly, I would get a set custom made if you're set on using that block. That way you can get the skirt clearance you need without the weight of the junk Speed Pros. Some guys don't charge too much extra just the wait time.

Oh ya & even if there is a listing for a .060 piston chances are it's not on the shelf at the manufacturer. Called them all back in may-june. They rarely run that piston/size, once a year or some b.s.

I think most of those I posted can be bought in 0.060 over, plus the Probe pistons, KB ICON, and Ross. What heads and compression ratio are you looking at using?

Custom pistons can be bought, but check around on the cost because some can get over $1,000/set.

I think the 440 source pistons are KB ICON brand, but for aftermarket rods with a 0.990" pin.

Oh they list 'em but don't usually stock them, manufacturer that is. I called Probe, JE, KB etc. when I was looking & they all said they only run them once in awhile. Also have to ask the actual skirt measurement with each manufacturer as they differ. Don't have my notes with me but just a warning on that as they all have different skirt numbers.

Doubt I would use them at that price....for that money(plus a little) you could come up with something much better(lighter)

I would spend a little more for the Probe pistons. It is a good entry level performance piston at a good price IMO.

Summit has good prices plus friendly website that let's you choose the specs and it will show all your choices. Looks like good prices on probe and icon pistons that are good compression height.
