How many operable era pro stock cars are actually out there right now?

Good question , I guess the key word is operable.
Many i think are "operable". I guess the real question is RACEABLE.

There is mine, and Freds, and I think Fred has a friend that has a Grumpy Jenkins Monza.
But as far as I know thats it that are Pro Stock CORRECT

Fred will chime in soon..

You know what I meant!

I think it would be cool to see a couple of cars that may look somewhat the part and run the same e.t.'s as you guys just to maybe make a three or so round race out of it. What would you guys think of something like that?

I have a question. Who's black pro stock duster was that that went on it's roof in columbus in the mid 70's right off the starting line? It was what they use to call the spring nats. and it was during qualifing I believe. Thanks Jake

I think it would be GREAT. The real problem is not finding the cars, Marco has several, Todd Werner has LOTS...The BIG HUGE problem is finding anyone else that is CRAZY ENOUGH .. To actually launch and run them at full speed down the track. But maybe , just maybe there is someone else out there who has lost his mind like Fred and I have.

I don't think there are enough cars to ever support any type of competition. When you take the evolution of the cars and owners that are willing to race their cars into consideration it would be tough to put any type of Racing format into place. You would need at least 3 of each generation Pro Stock. You can't race the first generation cars which were basicly Super Stock cars with tunnel rams against tube chassis cars. I just don't ever see it happening. The NSS classes could evolve and include a NPS and start off with a 1st generation class possibly 3300 lbs. 440 ci limit no dry sumps, must run tunnel ram and manual transmission, period correct hood scoop, latter bar suspension and 10.5x30" tire. Headsup no index. That would make for an exciting fun class.

Ioconio's Monza is being raced here in the Phoenix area as a S/G or Super Pro bracket car.

While I think it's really cool the Sox and Matin Duster and Missle Duster are out racing, and putting on a show, the cars are far from period correct... Sox and Carlton never ran with powerglides...

Ronnie Sox's Omni match race car had a 'glide, Ask Reed.

Also, Considering the way alot of those cars were built and how they handled, A 'glide is like a gift from God today.

The original Motown Missile Challenger was run with a Clutchflite for a (very) short time! So a 727 would be "period correct". How many people are gonna get up under there to see if the 727 has a clutch or a converter?

the P/G is there to soften hits on my 35 year old car. plus it's only only part of the picture. these are the real high dollar cars not tributes or clones. The engine, trans, driver's door ,fuel cell and calipers ( same Rotors )are the only items I have changed. The rest as it rolled out the door at S&M.
I think overall my car that still uses the same wheels, shocks, radiator and those that actually came on the car is very era correct.

Mike Fons was AMAZED (July 2007) at how much of the Missile was just as he had left it.
Fuel Cell, Front Wheels, and few other small items. But basically is still just like it set in 1974-1976.
Block is long gone, but still have same heads ect..

There are a lot more cars out there than you guys realize. In the early 90's Dominic Durinzi and I started a Nostalgia Pro Stock Association with limited success. At that time the cars either looked correct or ran strong. Dominic's S&M Colt and the '75 Rod Shop Butler built Dart were the only Moaprs that could do both. Times have changed. Remember, there are plenty of Ford/GM P/S competitors out there too. The ground work has been laid. BTW how many of today's Nostalgia Max Wedge cars could could even come close to passing NHRA Stock Eliminator tech?

My brother in the San Diego area has the P/S Duster supposedly originally owned by John Diana. We are still trying to verify that this information is correct. Anyone having information on this car, please let me know what you got.

"Ronnie Sox's Omni match race car had a 'glide, Ask Reed."

According to Chick Deninno who built & maitained the Omni, S&M was one of the first if not the First to test a PG in PS competition - Back then, internals were not what they are today so the trans did not have a long "life" and thus S&M went back to the Lenco. I restored the Omni to that time frame because it is "period correct" for the car and had a PG in it already. Tho' the Omni has a FC cage in it with some minor updates, it has a number of the original pieces still in the car including Mag Dana, dash, doors, wheels etc - Still has the Hardy Tag on the dash, too.
Personally, I have no problem with running a PG in "old" PS-style Circuit - hard enough to get cars out there, let the guys have "less" maintenance problems and breakage.
Pic is from when we tested the car with a 440 eng before restoration.
Thanks, Reed in Neb.

Is it a Pro Stock or a Super Modified/Modified Production./Altered car? I vaguely recall him having a B/SM Duster, possibly with a w-2 small block, when the class was formed.

Hemifred has some pics.

It is a small block 340 with a tunnel ram. The previous owner ran it in brackets. The tail lites have been changed from '70 to '72 like they did to upgrade from year to year. Doug Nash 4 speed with Dana.
