I started the job two years ago...I bought the diamond headlights, the set of 4 was 100 bucks on eBay with the H4 bulb setup....Paid another $150 for the HID kit complete with ballasts, dual fuses, and relays. I tried installing them and the rear housing of the headlight interfered with the linkage of my headlight doors. I thought I was going to have to do some cutting....

Sold the headlights instead to my buddy for his 72 Roadrunner....I bought the Hella H4 housings. Far superior product, all metal rear and all glass up front. Fit perfectly into the headlight buckets. The HIDs fit with MORE than enough room for the linkage to rise/fall...I have 6000K on the Hi/Lo and the Hi Beams I have a yellowish (I goofed) 4000K beam which I will replace sooner or later. I installed a painless wiring harness on the Hi-Beam side....I can't wait to take her out for a drive....the way she lights up the driveway is amazing...I will try to get pictures up soon....

Anyone else done this upgrade to their ride?

I hope you understand that the color temperature (i.e., 6000K or 4000K) has nothing to do with brightness - it has everything and only to do with color. Brightness is the amount of light that actually gets sent out from the light fixture. That has to do with how the reflector is designed and adjusted, how well the lamp sends light out, and how the lamp matches to the reflector.

Blue light - around 6000K - is extremely annoying to oncoming traffic, and not because of brightness. A 4000k light can be extremely annoying, but only if it is aimed wrong or the lamp doesn't match the reflector. The best light for the human eye is right around 4000K to 4300K.

See Dan Stern's discussion sometime over at Allpar.

That's what all the other drivers with super annoying headlights say.

Yeah those are dangerous for everyone else (including me) who get blinded by those. They should ban those bluish lights.

A 20mm cannon ought to be about right. Don't want to shoot any drivers, just the lights.

We have the "high beams for safety" bunch in our area. They can see everything. You can only see their glaring lights. The 20MM cannon sounds like a good idea.

I don't mind any color as long as you have them adjusted and you turn off your high beams. Problem around here is people don't have them adjusted right. And really unless you are on a back road in the middle of the night there is ZERO need for high beams. Especailly in this area...you can practically drive w/o lights at all and be ok.

I have my Low beams adjusted to just below my knee at 20 feet away....Thats what I was told to do years ago when you don't have the proper headlight adjustment tool.

Hi Beams...well...they just go anywhere they want to but they are on momentarily

If people would only LOOK at the car in front of them carefully and SEE that the interior and the rear view mirror are all lit up. It means their headlights are on high beam or maladjusted. Duh.

Correct low beams illuminate the trunk in front of you, not the interior.

If you can see my illuminated finger, dim 'em dammit!

I drove home last week from the exhaust shop...I lit up the road...but no rear views...The guy hit his hazards...I dunno what he wanted from me...he stepped on his brakes to get my attention...i backed off a little bit and then I hit all four headlights to show up that my lows here on...then I pulled up along side him quickly and rumbled him up with my exhaust...if anything...they need to be adjusted higher honestly..

I'm guessing your lights are annnnnooyying hince the brake check. If somebody creeped up on me with blinding lights, I'd hit the brakes too. You do understand the the human eye is drawn to light, so even if you try and look away from the rear view mirror You still can't help but look. AND our eyes adjust much much faster to light then darkness, so it takes a while to get you night vision back. That's one reason I HATE the new LED tail lights, they are way to bright.

if I was driving a Land Rover where the vehicle sits higher...would this even be a debate now? The headlights are frosted and have the marks on the inside, its not a clear glass. The bulbs themselves have a deflector shield. There is a new gadget found on cars...its called night shade for the rearview...that notch on the rear view mirror that no one ever uses....it's there for night driving...keep your eyes shielded

Dimming the side mirror is not always possible.

Like it or not, HID lights can be blinding to other drivers. It's not always direct light. Frequently it can be reflections off other surfaces, including the road itself.
Light still scatters when it hits the atmosphere.

Put me in the "I hate 'em column". I've been blinded by them more times than I care to remember. Try driving directly in to the rising or setting sun.

Wait until pass 65 and remember all the people you blinded. I've wanted to get a 1,000,000 power spot light and flash it at you selfish morons. The law says not to drive over the speed that your headlight allow. That doesn't mean brighter and faster at night.
