I started the job two years ago...I bought the diamond headlights, the set of 4 was 100 bucks on eBay with the H4 bulb setup....Paid another $150 for the HID kit complete with ballasts, dual fuses, and relays. I tried installing them and the rear housing of the headlight interfered with the linkage of my headlight doors. I thought I was going to have to do some cutting....
Sold the headlights instead to my buddy for his 72 Roadrunner....I bought the Hella H4 housings. Far superior product, all metal rear and all glass up front. Fit perfectly into the headlight buckets. The HIDs fit with MORE than enough room for the linkage to rise/fall...I have 6000K on the Hi/Lo and the Hi Beams I have a yellowish (I goofed) 4000K beam which I will replace sooner or later. I installed a painless wiring harness on the Hi-Beam side....I can't wait to take her out for a drive....the way she lights up the driveway is amazing...I will try to get pictures up soon....
Anyone else done this upgrade to their ride?

That's what all the other drivers with super annoying headlights say.
Yeah those are dangerous for everyone else (including me) who get blinded by those. They should ban those bluish lights.

I have my Low beams adjusted to just below my knee at 20 feet away....Thats what I was told to do years ago when you don't have the proper headlight adjustment tool.
Hi Beams...well...they just go anywhere they want to but they are on momentarily

If people would only LOOK at the car in front of them carefully and SEE that the interior and the rear view mirror are all lit up. It means their headlights are on high beam or maladjusted. Duh.
Correct low beams illuminate the trunk in front of you, not the interior.
If you can see my illuminated finger, dim 'em dammit!

I drove home last week from the exhaust shop...I lit up the road...but no rear views...The guy hit his hazards...I dunno what he wanted from me...he stepped on his brakes to get my attention...i backed off a little bit and then I hit all four headlights to show up that my lows here on...then I pulled up along side him quickly and rumbled him up with my exhaust...if anything...they need to be adjusted higher honestly..

I'm guessing your lights are annnnnooyying hince the brake check. If somebody creeped up on me with blinding lights, I'd hit the brakes too. You do understand the the human eye is drawn to light, so even if you try and look away from the rear view mirror You still can't help but look. AND our eyes adjust much much faster to light then darkness, so it takes a while to get you night vision back. That's one reason I HATE the new LED tail lights, they are way to bright.

Put me in the "I hate 'em column". I've been blinded by them more times than I care to remember. Try driving directly in to the rising or setting sun.

If you're blinding oncoming traffic, YOU are NOT really all that SAFE. Obviously they're installed and you're convinced that all is well...and maybe it is. But that aforementioned "brake check" was for a reason. I sincerely hope that it doesn't take a blinded driver meeting you in a head-on collision to change your way of thinking.

Feets covered it best. Generally, HID conversion bulbs do not sit in the same position within the housing as the halogens the housings were designed for. This causes light to be reflected in directions not originally intended (think of how a Maglight flashlight adjusts the beam from pinpoint to flood). Add in some cheaply made housings and a lack of any attempt to re-aim the lights afterwards and you've got a scattered mess.
I have projector housings (with HIDs) in place of the stock driving lights on my lifted truck. The beam cutoff is such that it does not go above the door handle of most cars crossing in front of me at an intersection. I run these and no headlights while in town because although my headlights are still legal height, they are annoying to other drivers when I am behind them.

Trust me...I don't have cheap headlamps...I bought some of the most expensive Hella's out on the market. The light spread is exactly what its supposed to be. The lenses are ribbed and frosted. The HIDs have the block off plate on the bulb so as to not hit the others drivers in the eyes. When there are Lexus SUVs, Land Rovers, Hummers with HIDs and blinding everyone on the road...no one says anything....I drive around other cars which are low to the ground...buckets...

I was referring to aftermarket assemblies in general, not your Hellas specifically.
Having said that, your comments regarding "Mr Brakecheck" and "aimed at my knees at 20 feet" could very easily place you in the category I was talking about.
Put a stock headlight back in one side, face off to a wall at about 25' and 50' and compare where the light is hitting the wall between the two sides. Not exactly a technical solution but it will give you a good idea of what's going on.

You're still not getting it (or you're just in denial). HID and incandescent lamps are completely different. The reflectors are not compatible (regardless of the price or quality of Hella lamp you utilizes...I'm guessing they are the vision plus ECE). It's an optical mismatch. Take it from someone (me) who designed, tested, and manufactured OEM headlamps for several years (for a Hella subsidiary no less). There is a reason the HID retrofits are labeled "for off-highway use only". They do not meet FMVSS/DOT or ECE standards. Here's the article that explains it all: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html

I must just still be too young as the HIDs don't bother me at night! I am a tech and Audi and MB gold certified as well as dodge and am trained in them, so they don't surprise me as I'm used to them. But the aftermarket only has one or two that are actually built for hid bulbs. But if they are aimed correctly they pose no problem. Incorrectly adjusted they will blind. And those are the only ones we remember. Kudos on the upgrade. And remember folks live and let live.

I bought used vehicles w/aftermarket HIDs. Best color is 4300k. Anything higher is stupid. I have fogs with 3000k. Can actually see better with those. I don't recommend HIDs on High beams because of the constant on/off nature of high beams will reduce life of the HID bulb.
