A friend of mine has a '02 Liberty.. He says he's not getting heat through the vents. The temp gauge warms up and the t-stat appears to open, as the gauge drops a little. the fan operates only sometimes and mostly on high. That leads me to believe a blower motor resistor. But still no heat.. Any suggestions??

Also, a different friend is looking at a '99 Wrangler with a 4 cylinder,5 spd.. He wants to lift it and put 33's or 35's under it.. Is the 4 cylinder a capable engine for offroading with tires that size?

The Libby sounds like a blend air door issue. Feel the heater hoses to see if hot coolant is going through the heater core. Also, replace the blower motor resistor, like you said.

4-cylinder Wrangler on 33s? Don't bother unless you really deepen the gears, just my

I've heard those 4cyls are extremely gutless as it is.

thanks guys.. I was thinking blend door also.. a Yoda has 4.10's for gearing from the factory though. Jeeps probably aren't geared that good are they?

STOP, I have a replacement blower motor resistor in my hand right now for the wife's 2006 liberty, they are known to fail.
IF the motor won't work on some of the 4 settings its NOT the blend door.

the resistor "card" is a $20 part.

Don't know about the Liberty but the 4 cylinder in the Wrangler is gutless. I have a 99/six cylinder/5 speed with 33's and 3.73 gears. Good enough for me but most would go with more gear.

He said the fan only works on high, but still no heat. This leads me to believe there are 2 problems. Maybe I misunderstood.

Yes to two problems. Our 2005 Liberty Renegade has the defective broken blend door, very common with Grand Cherokee and Liberty. Chrysler cheaped out and put a plastic hinge on them so they all eventually fail. The $2.00 replacement has a metal hinge but is a 600-800 dollar job if you call the dealership, the dash needs to be taken apart.Yes we replaced the resistor on ours also, the Car Quest part and the dealership part are the same-Made In Mexico- so you can choose to buy it from anybody. The hardest part with that was figuring out how to get the little red thing to release...I can't remember how it goes..Google. Hope this helps.

Yes.. there are 2 problems with the Liberty.. When my friend 1st started telling me the problem, I thought resistor.. Then, later, he came back with the info about about not getting the heat out at all, at times..I thought blend door but wasn't positive. I know back between '91 and '97 at a Linc/Merc dealer, 7x out of 10, the problem was the blend door. Thanks guys. Sorry for any confusion..

I have a 95 wrangler 4 cylinder 5 speed. I think all the 4 cylinders came with 4.10's. I had 31's on it for awhile, drives fine but barely will do 65 on the freeway with a headwind. Also a little tough on hills at speed. i would stick with a 6 cylinder or a smaller tire. Around town it will be fine.

4.10s for the 5 speed, and 3.73 for the automatic.

You can make do with 33s and the 4.10s, but that automatic will make you miserable with any tire larger than stock.
