Ok I've been fighting a trans pan gasket leak and looking for some options! Right now I have a cork gasket and it seams to leak alittle if I just take the car for a short drive say 5 miles total. If I'm out for longer I dont seam to notice it untill the car has set for a few days! Its not a big leak but I'm tired of cleaning up the puddle under the car! is there a better gasket to use or maybe a little silicone on the cork?? I built the trans about 800 miles ago and the cars put up for winter Just wanting to get something worked out before next spring!

Ive also retorqued the pan bolts but the leak is still there!

Are you sure it is the pan gasket? Oil leaks down and if it is something like a the front pump, dipstick tube, or shift shaft seal it will get the gasket wet and make it look like it is from there. Mined was from shift shaft seal and I just replaced mine about a month ago

I also pulled the pan off mine so I can remark the level for the dipstick since it was a aftermarket unit. I reused the old pan gasket and it sealed up fine.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Is the pan rail warped? Remove the pan and lay it on a flat surface. May be time for a new pan.

Yes that new type gasket is trick ... but way overkill IMO.

MOST leakage I have ever seen is from either a bent or warped pan-rail or way WAY over-tightening of the pan-bolts.

clean it good with brake clean

dry with air, throw a handful of baby powder around the shift shaft seals, fill tube,n-safty switch, speedo plug, tail shaft gasket on top of the pan gasket

let sit over night, look see where its leaking or seeping from

clean and fix

x3 on the dealer hard pan gasket, works very good, have reused mine a couple times already

dont over tighten the pan bolts, they will strip out before the gasket sqeezes out...DAMHIK

best way I have found to spot any leak on a tranny

Totally agree, I replaced my gasket 3 times, before I figured out it was leaking from 4 other places!

Hopefully it's not the low /reverse shaft o-ring seal .

if it is good time for a rebuild. Another problem in the same area is the tailshaft snap ring gasket. Do as mentioned above and you'll have the answer

I can't believe you said that. For a $10.00 gasket anyone would be a fool not to use it instead of the old cork or rubber.

I can Bill , the doc is so tight he squeaks when he walks , he would rather use a cork gasket and 5 bucks worth of RTV than buy a REUSABLE gasket

of course now I'll get harassing emails and other barbs thrown at me for stating the OBVIOUS .

Ive reused that reusable gasket twice now (with NO RTV) so Im ahead of the game. Oh ya, it didnt leak or squish out either and that makes it worth every cent I paid

We have one day of good weather so I have to decide today, cork or the good one which is going to cost me $21.53 at the dealer. I'll have to try the baby powder trick as I've been fooled several times on where they're leaking.

On my car the problem was the collecter flange for my TTI headers is close to the corner of the 727 pan gasket on the pass side. I also used the new MP gasket and now...no more gasket leaks. Spend a few bucks extra and do it rite.
