What's the reasoning that the 440 trucks had a passenger side water pump housing?

I bought a radiator from Champion radiators which isn't going to work b/c they don't have one that has the inlet/outlet on both the passenger side that'll work and/or fit.

Im thinking that if I change water pump housings (I was going to change out the timing belt anyhow) and switch it over to the drivers side, I'll be able to get a champion aluminum radiator that'll fit/work.

Would there be a fitment issue with this? The truck is a 74 Ramcharger SE, with a 440 & Factory A/C if that matters.

It may obscure your timing marks.. Big blocks have timeing chains not belts..

I am truckless..

good catch, my truck does have a timing chain.....but I guess it's possible that some 440's have timing belts

You will also have to change out all your accessories as they differed on the early DS outlet housings ('72-earlier) versus the later ('73-'78) pass. side outlet housings. The A/C compressor moved and they used a different bracket for the PS setup.

Top hose should stay on the passenger side due to the a/c compressor.

Might be easier to move the upper hose location on the radiator from the driver to passenger side assuming the upper tank has the bulge on both sides. Got welder?

Yeah gone through this all when I was working on a '70 Fury with a '78 motor. Fortunately the SB radiator in my '72 Fury is on the pass. side as I have a '75 440 motor going into it.

What you need is a double pass radiator.

This is what I used in my Ramcharger when I removed the 318 and added the 440.

Not one single 350, 361, 383,400,413,426 or 440 came from the factory with a timing belt. Neither did any small block or Hemi.

looks like I'll be going with this radiator:

The bracket is listed as being 1" narrower than the OE so I should be able to make that work w/o too much hassle.

CORE DIM (H x W) - 16 1/4 X 26
OVERALL (H x W) - 22 5/8 x 29
HOSE FITTINGS - In 1 -1/2 - Out 1- 3/4
BRACKET SPECS - Horizontal - 27 1/2

Champion lists it as for B & E bodies with 5.7 & 6.1L Hemi's in them...
