I broke a Manley 13093 valve lock. Summit and Jegs have ship dates of 8/26 on this item. I plan on calling Manley tomorrow but not sure if they will be much help I found my lower ball joints (actually upper ball joints) moving up and down a half inch and replaced them with MOOG today. have yet to get the little grease fitting to screw in after a half hour of trying. pulled the headers out to goop them up with red permatex in hopes they seal exhaust leaks. didn't know I didn't need to pull the oil pump to change cams, which turned into dropping the pan for the 3rd time in 3 weeks. I'm stupid I have showered and changed clothes 3 times, I'm a puddle of mud right now. if anyone happens to have the valve locks I need, would you be willing to ship them to me and I'll buy you new ones(depending on what Manley tells me tomorrow) the clock is ticking, and I'm getting nervous. Person I worked with for past 8 years quit and I'm trying to do the job of 2 people at work also.

If you could just hose me down with cold water while I'm working that would be great, but there is no cold water in south Carolina in august

But that is the advantage living where you don't have to HEAT your house in the winter...We get to burn all of our $$$ in the winter here at 10°! Not to mention what snow removal equipment costs...
Good luck, and I am routing for you. Kicked A$$ last year, and really made a lot of us very happy to see you win..Wish they would have covered your car more in the vids...

Is that a little anemic Eddy carb on that engine? Most guys are running some pretty good size carb on them. How did you do the ignition set-up?
I just love when people hate on my carbs. for years everyone told me to take the six pack off, now its take the edelbrock off.
I have the MSD hemi 6 on it
Not hating on it, but my understanding is the G3's prefer more carb than most conventional thinking would call for. What size is it? And I am pretty sure you ran a pair of them on your previous wedge combo...They take a little tinkering just like any carb. I am not famialiar with their Thunder series carbs either, just the old style ones.
On the ignition is it user programable? use setup the entire curve?

it has a timing curve that you can change. retard. rev limiter. map curve. works good

Oh yea those afb, avs, edelbrock are just horrible. I am supprised the NSS cars, Maxi Stockers and so forth will even get to the starting line under their own power. Lol How about the stock class dart that runs low 10's with a single 440 avs. You can tune that design carburator and they work much better than most give them credit for. Steve Wann has run 9.70 in SS with a single AVS.

Nothing against them as far as tunability goes when using two of them, but those carbs are not stock out of the box carbs the SS guys use and many of the metering rods in them are closely guarded secrets. I assure you when I ran a pair of them on my Hemi, what the engine wanted, and what is available in their tuning kit is night and day different. I was to the point of making my own on a lathe to accomidate what the engine wanted. If they had an all togather seperate idle circuit, they would be better.
You can however order custom ones from certain suppliers that will get them to work better, but limited to a single carb really restricts options. Once I drilled the quirters out big enough to get rid of the bog, I ran out of fuel in the bowl. And the rods never had the right combinations, so it takes more than just tinkering to sort them out.
I am rooting for him, and he had two of these working very well on his RB engine, so I am curious to see...So keep up the work, and I very much want to see him succeed here. Especially taking on a new challenge of a new engine like this after having won last year with his previous combo...Been wanting one of these engines as well, but they are initially cost prohibitive to replace the older generation engines with.
I do have an 850 Proform I can send you if you want to try it, at NO CHARGE. It has all the air bleeds for adjustability, and you are welcome to it. I would put it on the dyno and tweek it a little as I have not had enough time to get it where I would like, but its up to you.

good news and bad news
I got the car running last night and it sounds much better. the car got a lot louder than it was, I wouldn't have thought that. I have 17" of vacuum at idle, sounds really responsive
the bad news is my friends that own the dyno, well I had a falling out with one of them and won't be able to go back and see what difference it made which really bums me out. but oh well.
I rechecked the vacuum on the old cam and i was mistakin, it wasn't 28 it was 24"
maybe if it EVER stops raining I will get to drive it.

the bad news is my friends that own the dyno, well I had a falling out with one of them and won't be able to go back and see what difference it made which really bums me out. but oh well.
I rechecked the vacuum on the old cam and i was mistakin, it wasn't 28 it was 24"
maybe if it EVER stops raining I will get to drive it.
oh for pete's sake go kiss and make up. friends are hard to find.
I don't have a problem with him, he has a problem with me. one of those guys that asks for free stuff for his car than turns around and sells or trades his car 3 months later. he traded away someones CNC'ed heads.
i know thats ridiculous but he has to live with it. tell him how you feel with out getting into
oh I did, somehow in his mind, 30 hrs of my time equals 3 hours on his dyno
he will understand when he doesn't get your help anymore

good news and bad news
I got the car running last night and it sounds much better. the car got a lot louder than it was, I wouldn't have thought that. I have 17" of vacuum at idle, sounds really responsive
the bad news is my friends that own the dyno, well I had a falling out with one of them and won't be able to go back and see what difference it made which really bums me out. but oh well.

What's the LSA of your new cam? 17" still seem's quite high.

so Chip sent me a Holley 830 cfm dp,it has power valves front and rear, annular boosters, jet extensions/ notched float. I put new gaskets in it, a 50cc pump on the secondaries and just took it for a ride. it doesn't idle as well as the edelbrock and I don't think it feels as fast but its so silky smooth and with the jets that were in it, looks very close on the A/F meter but most of you know I certainly don't live by that meter
the edelbrock had a slight hesitation when the outboards opened which I was planning on working on but I think Chip's Holley is going to Drag Week. I'm not getting full throttle with the Holley so I need to work on a new throttle cable bracket
the new cam not only sounds better but the car feels a lot stronger, I guess we'll see how it does in a week and a half

Cool... glad you got it back together... see you in BG.. I pulled the heads off my Rampage today... and the set of W-2s off my other engine... I'm gonna mock them up tomorrow and measure for push rods... then I want to tear the W-5s apart to see if I see anything wrong

Glad my carb is working good for you. I know you'd rather run the Edelbrock, but since you're in a pinch for time maybe you can make an exception this once, lol. That carb worked great on my old 440...used it for a long time. Do whatever you need to do to it and good luck at DW!!!

I have a question? can a DW participate replace max performance carb from the trunk for a fuel mileage carb on the engine, at the track.then back to milage carb for the road?
Yep. I remember that Doc guy w/ the white vette did just that a few years back.

You can change anything you want.. EXCEPT the block.. the block you start with is the one you finish with.. other than that... you can throw ANYTHING at it

Shawn Anderson switched between a gasoline carb (for the road) and an E85 carb (track) every day in 2011.

Get fancy with the carb and you can get good mpg and run well at the track. I came in with a weekly mpg average of over 13mpg and ran in the 11s the whole trip.
I just changed mufflers and it made my tune much more rich though so I will see how that MPG works out this year.
