Leaking out the back. This looks like a plug, It had backed out and I was able to push it back in. Can I simply indent the case to stop the plug from moving forward?

That's the rear band lever shaft. It should have an o-ring on it, and the tab on the extension housing holds it from coming out. If it's leaking and coming out too far, you may be tearing a few things apart.
You could I suppose get lucky and make a little "bracket" to hold it in and mount it to the housing or pan bolts. But that won't solve the leak. I've found that even stuffing some RTV over the hole eventually starts seeping again.
By the way, the "tab" on the extension housing in your picture seems to be ground off.... shouldn't be....

Isn't that what holds the shaft in?

someone had a post about this a while back.

they cut the tab off the tail housing to slide the shaft out just enuff to change the o-ring on it, then pushed it back in and made a small bolt on tab to hold the pin all the way forward.

the idea was to change the o-ring with trans in the car with out R&R of the tailhousing/pan/VB/low/revs strut/lever.

seemed to work ok for them when done.

I have fixed a couple by jacking up rear,clean with brake clean, airdry, use mopar ATF/RTV black filling in the hole/end of shaft.

the mopar ATF/RTV holds up the best with anything with trans fluid.

I cut the tab off mine last summer, replaced the o-ring and made a new tab out of flat bar. Had to remove the pan to tap the rod out. Seems like there are a couple threads about this.

However, it worked great. Here's some pix of mine.

There is also a two o-ring reverse pin available. It is an OEM piece and found in some 727's. Two o-rings are always better than one.
