Aluminum heads out grow the pushrods hot so 6 thou or tighter lash is probably on order. Hydraulic try 1/2 turn more pre load that should do it if not another 1/2

What double R and Dodgem said, see how much preload you have now & increase it slightly & see what happens. Holler how it goes

If you are running a lower viscosity oil, something higher may make a significant difference.

Whats the hot idle oil pressure? Does it clatter at idle or all the time? May have some loose clearance issues bleeding off pressure that are worse when hot. Other comp hyd cams I have had make a little noise I think because of the ramp designs, but not enough to be annoying. Maybe try an HV oil pump if not running one already?

I went to set the lifters cold ...and found the driverside of motor ok and gave them a 1/4 turn more of preload ..I went to passenger side and 6 out the 8 were no longer pumped up !!!!
What type rocker arm and the size of the adjuster(3/8x24 TPI or 7/16x20 TPI) are you running? If the 3/8 x 24 each full turn of the adjuster is right at .042, the 7/16x20 is right at .050 so 1/4 turn on the 3/8 is right at .0105, probally not quite enough preload hot with cast iron or aluminm heads Setting the lash on a hydraulic cam and lifters can be very challenging, been there done that Try warming up the motor first so you can set one side of the motor at a time and try using the method to set the intake valves when the exhaust valve just starts to open when turning the motor over clockwize, I use the starter with a remote starter button, bump it around very carefully until the exhaust rocker arms just starts to open and then set the intake lash by backing the adjuster off until you get some slack between the rocker arm and valve, reach over the rocker arm with your fingers and turn, spin, the exhaust pushrod while you slowly tighten the adjuster up, once you get to zero lash, very slight tension on the pushrod try setting the preload a 1/2 turn more To set the exhaust valve preload turn the motor over until the intake valve opens all the way and starts to cloes, then set the exhaust Do one pair at a time and when your done with that one side put the valve cover back on and run the motor for several minutes more to get some heat back in the other side

I'm new to the stock stuff I'm used to solid roller valve lash etc....I will get to the point ...I have a fresh 440 rebuilt by a friend and this thing sounds like it has Rhoads lifters ...which it doesn't ...comp cams equipped and after the engine warms up it chatters a lot ...stock heads aluminum roller rocker arms its quiet when its cold but after warming its annoying
since the friend did the engine ,ask if it has oil restrictors installed.. you would/may be surprised......

been doing it that way since it was taught to me 40 years ago, I will only add while rolling the pushrod and turning the adjuster you will distinctly feel the difference in resistance when you hit zero lash, even if the lifter is not pumped up you will feel the spring tension under the plunger
