Anyone out there with a 70 Roadrunner,air grabber equipped car running an MSD Pro-Billet Distributor?I'm thinking of getting the MSD ignition for my 70 air grabber car but I'm worried that the distributor is too tall and won't fit with the air box,etc.Anyone have any info on this set-up please let me know.I'm looking around and asking around but haven't been able to find any answers yet...

Dave

Mine is not an air grabber car, but it had a pro billet when I bought it. I couldn't even get a plain jane stock twin-snorkel scoop to fit. My hunch is that your air grabber won't either.

It is a very tall distributor body, and the cap is tall, too with the HEI connectors.

Ok...I'm new to building engines,first and foremost.I figured an MSD ignition set-up would be best.Can anyone suggest and good electronic distributor for a 70 Roadrunner with an air grabber hood?

I just used a plain old Mopar Performance tan cap distributor to trigger my MSD box. Just had to swap the MP electrical connector with the MSD one.

Works fine, and it has vacuum advance--the pro-billet does not.

The Firecore billet distributor will clear that air grabber assembly and is a much better distibutor than the MP unit and more compact than the MSD pro-billet. Also much more economical than the MSD....about $100 cheaper. Much easier to tune for mechanical advance and way more adjustable.

Available in several models ;

(1) Ready to Run billet with built-in ECU so there's no ballist resistor or external box....really cleans up the engine bay.

(2) Plug & Play billet that uses an external box....snaps right into the MP wiring harness and works with orange/chrome boxes, revinator or msd/crane/mallory multiple discharege boxes.

(3) Billet mechanical that has no vacuum advance and requires an external box ; MSD/Crane/Mallory etc...

* all Firecore distributors work with a factory tan cap or you can opt for a male terminal HEI cap.

I am assuming...my six pack air cleaner (modified for Dual Quads) is almost similar in measurements ...yeah I dont have the air box you do but I have the MSD Billet distributor and I can clear the air cleaner. It's tight but it fits. Might have to do some fab work like me and relocate the carb openings on the underside to get some clearance...

Good luck with that sinking feeling

Here's a pic of the Chrysler electronic plug & play billet distributor with factory tan cap

If a stock distributor fits....this one will too. No modifying air cleaner baseplates ot air grabber assemblies required. Bolt-in and go

I have a 69 GTX with air grabber. I installed the MSD Pro Billet. Even after cutting the base down 3/4 of an inch(to fit Holley SD) the distributer, cap, wires, all fit underneath the air filter base. Don't know what the difference is between 69 and 70. I have not yet installed the hood on this car; my measurements say it will clear but...

Pete that sinking feeling is gone.I hadn't actually test-fitted the MSD distributor until just now and upon further review all fits and fits like a bloody glove...so anyone out there with a 70 air grabber equipped car the MSD will fit...whew!
