Guys,
How hateful is it to replace a auto trans on a GC without a lift? Would it be better to pull the engine and the trans together from under the hood? Or tell my girlfriend to have someone do it that has access to a lift?

I told her today to find a mechanic with a lift to swap the trans. I'm getting too old (and lazy?) to try and squeeze under there with jack stands and wrestle that thing in and out. Don't need to wreck my back before vacation either.

Plenty of room to work,at age 60 I won't do it.The wiring harness that goes to the trans is to short, have whoever does the work extend it or it will never reconnect to the trans firmly and repeatedly leave her stranded.Ask my wife how I know.

I ran a trans shop up until 2010 and never had to extend a harness on one

Jeep dealers around here keep these in stock. http://www.electricaladvantage.net/reexternalwireharnessrepairkit.aspx

I've never had to "extend" that harness, but I've replaced a ton of them. Seals in the valve body side of the connector start leaking over time, turns those wires to mush and they end up shorting together.
