....isn't my compressor cycling? It isn't noisy or anything, but it won't cycle on and off, just like the old days.

Any ideas? Will it hurt it?

If it was low on refrigerant, the compressor clutch would cycle on and off quickly. I suppose that if it were over charged, or very hot and humid, it would take a long time before it cycled off??? Is the compressor engaged, and blowing cold air?

It is working fine, got to blowing 40 deg. air. It was cycling before I replaced the compressor. It really doesn't bother me it doesn't, as long as it's not a problem.

I actually undercharged it a bit on purpose as my gauges are old and I don't entirely trust them.

with it idling, pull the plug on the compressor, and see if it stops running. the clutch might be stuck, unless you see it stopping, by using the dash controls?

What's your outside temp when you did your test?

Bill it will run a lot when hot and humid.there is a sensor built in that shuts the A/C off when the evap gets around 32 degrees so it dosent freeze. That and the hi pressure switch will shut it off if it gets too high. Not uncommon for it to run a lot with high temps.Rocky
