So I just got some new (slightly used) mopar valve covers and they are installed. They are looking great. On the old valve covers, one side had a oil cap and a PCV check valve connected to the base of the carb. The other side had just a breather that was connected to the air filter housing.

The mopar valve covers have an oil cap on each side and a place you can drill out to install a breather or a PCV check valve. My plan is to buy a oil cap air breather combo for one valve cover so I don't have to drill it and since the oil cap is closer to the fire wall anyways and a new PCV for the other valve cover. Unfortunately, the current valve cover came drilled out too large for the current PCV rubber grommet that the PCV connects into. I had two questions:

1) Are all PCVs the same or do I have to get a mopar specific PCV? My plan is to take the valve cover to Pepboys and see if they have something that will snap into the valve covers.

2) Is it a problem if the vent vents to engine compartment vice the intake filter housing?

(1) You'd want a PCV that flows pretty close to what was originally in there & not sure how you'd go about referencing that to another make. (2) A filtered breather on one side with the PCV on the other side is correct. In '68 when the CAP (cleaner air package) systems came about the top (filter) side of the breather that's plugged into the valve cover had to go to the air cleaner so blowby fumes could never vent to the atmosphere which they would with an open filter system at WOT especially & would be worse as the eng wore out. If it has to be inspected I'm not sure if they would require that or not but aside from that there's alot of those open systems in operation just have the PCV on one side & the breather filter on the other side

Do you want full manifold vacuum to the PCV valve? Through what size port and hose? My Performer RPM/950 Holley set up has only one place to pull vacuum - a plug in the manifold.

You can get the proper grommets at your dealer. They are in the MP catalog..
