I reused the old lock and buffed it up to look like new. After a dozen uses it no longer opens and I am stuck. There is no way I can squeeze my #$%^ thru the back seat frame and am residing to drilling out the lock. Anyone do this and will it work? i then need to buy a new one which I have not done yet.

No kids in the family or neighborhood that want an adventure? Easy enough to do if you can find someoone that fits - I hate drilling locks.

with the back seat out do you have a straight line of sight to the bolts for the catch? If so several long 3/8 extensions/a swivel socket & some electrical tape around the swivel to keep the socket in line might do the trick. Never drilled one but it's doable (patience & a sharp quality bit). EDIT Shoozy nailed it, either a kid or a dwarf or a midget whatever is available

Never tried this on a B body, but I was able to make a long enough extension out of some flat stock to pop the lock from inside after I removed the rear seat in my old C body. I would also seriously consider getting a can of spray graphite lube for locks and try that before I drilled out my lock.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

One morning on the way to work, I locked my keys in the trunk of my 79 Aspen.
I popped out the rear seat and squeezed my 280lb fat azz thru the package shelf bracing and opened the truck by tripping the lock's linkage.
Made it to work with 2 minutes to spare!

Tape a screw driver to a broom stick and use your flash light. Look for the screw driver slot just about in the middle of the lock mechanism. Just give it a turn and she will pop right open.

Although I find a trunk monkey far more entertaining.

You know, I would actually consider playing dumb and allowing some good hearted soul DO that, just for the pure entertainment value...

I'm 55 now, no time to waste. Not a week goes by that I don't hear about someone passing on.Let's get out there, smoke some tires, have a beer with a good friend,do what you have always wanted to do.I am pretty sure no one will ever say on their deathbed "gee I'm glad my life was calm and boring"

Nowadays, it might be difficulty to ask some kid to go into the trunk of your car...be careful with that.

Screwdriver on the broomstick is the winner, might need to use a hose clamp to secure the screwdriver.

Ask the parents to send the kid over.

I can't afford this. mark

I drilled mine out. I put my key in and it just started turning. I have a fire break between the seat and trunk. I just drilled it out. Started w/ a small bit then a larger one until I could get a long skinny screw driver in. Still that way today. I didn't even remove the assembly.

Just like a fish hook, went in easy, not much fun getting back out.
