does anyine know the data plate codes for a 5th ave or a Dip? I found one in the boneyard that i think has a 8 1/4" rear that'll fit my 77 volare. I'm not quite sure that it has a suregrip in it. Any help here?

Turn one axle. If the other one turns the same direction it's a sure grip. If the other wheel turns the opposite way it's an open one legger.

Other things to check for:
Oval or "stop sign" cover.

If stop sign, its a 10 bolt 7.25, not an 8.25 (also the axle tubes will neck down from 3" into the housing)
Count the turns of the driveshaft, too. The 8.25 could have 2.45, 2.76, or 2.94 gears (if stock). Could also be an f-body unit and have 3.23s.

or look where the axle tubes go into the center casting. if they neck down to 2.5" it's a 7 1/4"....if they're 3" the whole way, it's an 8.25"
