Last year for 727s in trucks/vans?

From what I can tell by searching the tech archives and the Google search at the top of the page, '78 was the last year for regular production 727s. There is mention of them in fleet vehicles and trucks after '78. Any way to tell other than dropping the pan to check the valve body or pulling the trans. to look at the input shaft? Reason I ask is I'm headed to a pull-a-part Saturday to try and find one for parts for the Charger. Tim

I just got a 85 727 non lock up from a JY. I have not confirmed the pan rail #s on it as anything can be replaced/rebuilt as needed now days. my 85 truck came with an 85 727 lock up trans,the last 2 replacement I have used have been 85 non lock up 727.

What do you mean by "regular production"? The 727 was renamed 36RH in the early nineties and was still available in '99.

you would be incorrect.
36RH is the later Mopar designation terminology for a 727 32RH is 904 based case design
A518 became a 46RH then 46RE ( both of which are an OD btw )
4 = # of forward speeds 6 = HD R = rear wheel drive H = hydraulic governor ( E = electronic governor)
To answer the op, I believe it was approx real late 90's or early 2000's and even then I believe it was only only in B vans . Best I can remember all pickups had gone to the A518 OD trans by then

Just did a search for a '99 van with a 3 speed, there is several less than an hours drive from my location.
Just for the heck of it I logged into Mopars dealer connect and at least for 1999 the 32RH is listed for ram vans with a 5.2 or 5.9 light duty.
1997 is the last year I see a 36RH in a van with a 5.9

Nobody said it had to be in a truck, I merely stated the 727 (renamed 36RH) was available as late as '99 but, yes, only in vans.
Not a problem! Only stated that I have never seen a 727 or 36RH or whatever they want to call it, in anything past 89 myself. I have had a salvage yard here for many years and everything that comes here in the 90's up has had 518's or 46RH,RE's in them including vans. It really doesn't matter to me though. If they built 727's all the way to 2013 instead of the overdrives it wouldn't break my heart.
