In the process of welding my slots up in Dist. and firing up my 440 after dist reinstall my front bowl wouldn't fill with gas. I removed bowl cleaned it and put new needle valve in. I had it too high and started to puke gas out vent tube.
Got the needle and fuel level adjusted, fired up car and is running WAY rich, pulled 2 plugs both soaked with gas, cleaned reinstalled plugs fired it up again and notice oil pressure at about 40 normally I am 70-75.
Checked dipstick and its is way over full level and , thin and smells strongly of gas.
This is a Holley Ultra Street Avenger 770 vac sec.
Where do I start? did i dump all this fuel in crankcase when it was puking gas. I must have fouled out plugs which is why they were wet.
Right now oil is draining, filter pulled, new plugs installed and carb is off.
Not sure what to look for or where to start...point me in the right direction..pls!!

Change oil/filter/clean or replace plugs. remove & invert the bowls & set the "dry" float level which'll be from the top of the float(s) to the inside bowl surface using a drill bit to measure. Since you're inverting it you'll be measureing from the bottom of the float down to the (now) floor of the bowl. Make sure you have a good filter & genuine Holley replacement needle/seat assy's I'm sure would be a good idea. When it starts & is idling put a rag under the sight plug(s) & remove it & I think you want the wet level so it just dribbles out if you rock the eng slightly (others will clarify that), been with Eddys for decades

So it is the Holley carb fault cause you set the float too high....at least you can adjust it externally...do that with a eddy...and you gotta pull the top of the carb off again...

That happened to me with an Eddy 750, so it's not exclusive to Holleys. The carb was literally filled to the top with fuel.

Summer 1986, I had a Camaro with the ubiquitous Holley 600. I was getting ready to go somewhere and the car wouldn't start. I pulled the air filter and saw fuel dripping down onto the throttle blades. This was the FIRST time I heard about sticking/stuck needle valves. Now they come in many rebuild kits. That car didn't have an inline fuel filter before the drip, but it did afterwards.

Are you running a mechanical fuel pump? If so it probally is the source for the gas in the oil, not the carb. If you had said the the car would not turn over because of the cylinders being full of gas from the needles sticking I may have accepted a small amount of gas in the oil, not enough to dilute the oil to lose oil pressure though I have had motors that did hydraulic the cylinders due to leaky needles and seats, luckily they all stop spinning on the starter quick enough to not bend a rod or split a cylinder wall None of them foul the oil enough to make the oil thin enough to lose oil pressure, even with 5W 20 WT oil I now remove all the spark plugs before trying to start my motors any time I think I may have excess fuel in the cylinders and then spin it over with the coil disconnected
