I have successfully eliminated the AC using no extra pulleys, etc.
It requires some modification of a rib on the waterpump, and a shorter belt (of course).
I dont have any pictures, but you end up running the belt from the alternator to the crank. Its been a long time since I had "Lenny" so the particulars are a bit fuzzy.

on my '87 all I did was change the fan pulley, run the altornater over the fan pulley to the crank.no issue with the steering pump.

I just acquired a really sweet '87 D100 small block with inopearable AC and would like to make it work. Just curious, why take it out? Is it too expensive to make the system work with modern refrigerants?

i have seen both.
on mine i have a 2 groove crank pully a 1 groove WP pully and can run a 1 or 2 groove alt with the non-A/C pullys.
the ALT/WP/Crank get 1 belt on the rear crank groove.
the PS gets a belt from crank on the front groove.
I have often in the past just run a belt from the alt to crank pully,if you remove the support rib on the neck of WP you can run 2 belts from crank to alt. I have left the A/C comp in place most times on stock junk.
but striping one down I just use the brackets and pullys with comp. removed.
to convert over to non-A/C pullys you just need the 2 groove crank pully,1 groove WP pully,non-A/C alt brackets.
the manual steer pullys/alt bracket are the same but crank pully has 1 groove.
I can post a pic of mine if you need a looky see.
I have used all of the multi-groove pullys with a/c brackets and just cut/trim them to clean up the look when ditching a/c
