Trans fluid temp WILL have an effect on stall rpm.

Not a trans cooler, car is a handshaker, but my PS cooler. I think if you mount it away from the radiator it is just as effective without any chance of heat transfer between the 2.

Here's mine.

Put a BIG cooler on it... you can always cover some of it with tape/shield if it's too efficient, you can't go the other way!

Thanks for the pics guys! Mine is mounted similar to how Rob has his.

Question for you guys, especially Crizila- I am assuming that the trans cooler lines HAVE to be run on the inside of the frame rail? I couldn't find anything about this in the NHRA rule book, and want to know for sure since my new headers are pretty damn close to the inner frame rail, and running them on the outside would make my life easier IF it is allowed.

No, nothing in the rule book ( in the general regs section ) on trans cooler line routing. Like many, my original lines ran along the left pan rail and then to the bottom of the rad tank. I routed them the same way until they were over the K member ( about mid pan ) and then ran them left in a square tubing shield past the belt area to the inside of the left frame rail and then forward. Since I have a rad with a built in trans cooler, I still utilize it (in line) with my external cooler. The in & out fittings from my rad make right angles to stay clear of the belt area. Losing a fan belt ( by itself )would not likely take out the cooler lines. Losing a blower belt is another story. It actually bent the eye bolt ( trailer tie-down) in the first pic. I only brought this up as a warning for those running something larger than a single groove belt - Serpentine belts, blower belts, etc. Easiest solution for me was to enclose the lines in the "danger" zone.

I dont mind mounting the cooler a lengthy distance
from the trans... more line is just more fluid... most
of us put larger pans on the trans to get more volume
so the line helps for more volume
