Has anyone tried this pump from race pumps? How'd it work out?

Read Vizard's remarks on calculating fuel pump capacity.

Where can I read those remarks?

My bro has one on his 517 Hemi. Built for pump gas & with the
cr*p, ethanol laced gas around the Reno area, it still vapor locked
on its maiden voyage. Installed a small 35gph electric helper pump
& it cures vapor lock on hot days in Vegas. The Race pump is pretty
trick, lightweight & seems to put out enought to get the heavy Charger to 114 mph at MATS. I think its arm pressure on the cam is really low, something like 35lbs, vs the 100lbs + that the Carters or Eddy mechanical pumps require? He still intends to switch to a 150 gph
Holley gerator pump to prevent vapor lock issues.

Sounds like a nice ride. But I have always been told never put 2 pumps on one line. They acually work against each other.

If the MODS did their job I would not be hitting the notify MOD button. LOL

Any pump that has a suction side thats mounted up
on the engine(in the heated area) will/can vapor
lock... thats why a pump mounted at the rear and
pressurizes the fuel going to the front doesnt have
the vapor lock issue(higher the pressure the less
it has the chance to vapor lock)

That's why we're replacing the mechanical race pump with a Holley
gerator style pump & mounting it in the rear. Small electrical pump it has now is only turned on when starting or in traffic on a hot day.
I put the stock vapor separator setup on my 434 Hemi as the Shaker held all the heat around the fuel lines on my Challenger. When fuel pump pushrod lobe failed on the cam, I put the Holley pump in the rear & no more vapor lock. Good thing about the mechanical Race Pump is, IIRC, very low pressure on the pushrod.

I put this pump on my 572 Hemi, there are lots of reports of the pump losing prime if the fuel system is not absolutely perfect and leak free. They produced a priming kit that runs an electric pump and has a check valve because it won't prime it self. I put a comp cams brass tiped pushrod in and it has a small tick. With the correct regulator, I think these are great. Tim

Everything I have read about the race pumps say that they will vapor lock unless you run a return line.

We have a 1/2" fuel line & a 1/4" return line & 2 Eddy 650's on the Hemi. The small 35 gph electric works great for priming when starting & puts out just enough pressure to prevent vapor lock on hot days, but I don't know if I'd trust it in heavy traffic on a 105 degree day.

Should have my small block race pump today and will start plumbing the system this weekend. Will try summit fuel check valve before the pump and hopefully won't have priming issues
