Guys I'm wondering how similar 312 heads are compared to 902 heads and can they be run on the same engine? The 312 on one side and the 902 on the other?Identically prepped springs/valves...etc. Maybe someone can help me out...thanks

Dave

Ok you know you've been in the garage for too long when this sort of stuff happens.I got the numbers ass-backwards...the heads in question are 3751213 and 3769902...the 902 heads are from a 1974 400/440 and the 213 heads are from a 1973 400/440 motor home...(shaking my head at yet another mess-up)...thanks

Dave

vertually the same head will not make a difference to the motor.

213 heads have extra cooling holes from block to head

Also some 213's and some 452 heads use tapered seat spark plugs and will also have to extra cooling holes as mentioned above. These are usually found on 440-3 engines.

Just use the heads, they will both respond to porting, even the MP porting templates will help.

I have a pair of 213 heads from a Newport 2-barrel 400 and THEY DO NOT HAVE THE EXTRA COOLING HOLES. And they take regular spark plugs. I'd probably prefer that they used the peanut plugs, as those 3/8" reach gasketed plugs are not hanging on the wall at WalMart any more.

As with everything else Mopar, never say never.

R.

My 383 RR is like that; 213 on one side and 902 on the other. I pulled those heads off a 400 truck in a junkyard because that's what I could get to replace 906s.

Mine has been like that(213/902)since 1995 or so and I have no plans to take them off. There are no extra holes or special plugs or anything.
