How can I tell what Transmission I have?

I found out my current truck has had a few transmission in it since it was bought. I thought it had a 727 until today. Is there some way I can get under the truck and see what kind it is?

A 727 has a big hump out the side of the pan at the dipstick, a 904 is square there. What year truck?

Might be a lock up converter trans then. The gaskets are the same, there should be a single wire plug on the front drivers side where the lines are if it is. What are you trying to do with it?
