Does anyone have any experience with the predator single 4 cast intake? I bought a motor the heads have been ported but the intake has not been ported. The intake that is on it is the original NRC version, I have been getting mixed reviews about getting this one ported or buying a new intake from INDY because they have redesigned it to have more plenum volume. Does anyone have any suggestions what direction to go or who has experience with porting these manifolds?

The original manifold was not the best, but i don't have experience with the indy. I'd still suggest trying the indy.

Not all that complicated, just port match the runners, then blend into the intake runners about an inch up. I usually build the gaskets to match the head, then put them up to the respective side on the manifold and secure into place, scribe a line onto the manifold on each port, remove gasket, then use blueing to mark it for better visibility, use a die grinder with an aluminum bit and carefully grind out to your scribe marks and blend it into the port. If you have the funds I would say go with a manifold that matches the profile of your cam, converter and related componants. ie: what rpm range is the cam designed to run...transbrake? converter size? Take your time going through this process to get the most out of your combination.

From what I have been told this intake requires a lot more port work than just a gasket match to make it perform like it should.

The small 4bbl manifold is for use up to 7000 rpm on a 572 cid engine.DO NOT try to use this manifold on a 604 turning 7500 rpm,it was not designed for that!!!
The large 4bbl is for up to 9000 rpm and/or larger cid engines
Both manifolds need to be port matched and adjusted to deck height, etc.

The motor is a 588 and will be used for throttle stop racing. The previous owner was crossing the finish line at 7450.

So if your going to use a stop on it you probably have WAY more motor than you need esp with that head! Port matching will do all you need for that combination. There is more horsepower in the valve job than what you will find in the runners.

I know that it is plenty of motor for throttle stop racing, but I'm just trying to keep up with the fast Chevy guys in our division. The reason for asking the intake question is that the guy who built this engine talked with Darren Morgan about it when the heads were ported and he figured that there is 80 HP left in the intake. Just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were.

Man you S/St guys are getting out of hand. Maybe I need to build a BIG motor so I can keep up

I have a goal! Too many fast chevys and I'm tired of being a middle of the pack car, and now that I have a car that can handle the power It was time for me to upgrade motors and this predator motor was a great deal. The original owner lives only about 30 miles from me and did not use any cheap parts to build it and just decided to get out of racing. Oh and Al your small motor does just fine.

Why would you question Darrin? He is right a good manifold on that is worth all he said. I just can't tell you who has one.

I didn't mean to insult you...If your that serious about big mph listen to what Darrin says or call Eddie Miller, He has one of those behemoths in a street/chassis car that supposedly runs low 6s with the ac on!

No insult here, I hear that all the time why do you need more power just to slow it down...

Give me a call at the shop.

We have the small intake that was previously designed, as well as the new large intake that we did.

First off I would listen to what Steve Gill has to say ! Second When did Eddie put A/C on the Duster and where did he run a Low 7 at ?? or hey wait Low 6 ??

If Eddie ran a low 6 in his NON-AC car, it was in the 1/8th mile.
I think he did squeek out a very high 7 on who knows how many nitrous kits though when Monte Smith was helping him. That's fast, but nowhere near a 6 sec car. Now it's a N/A combo and i believe he's shooting for a high 8 sec. pass. Time will tell. Even a high 8 will be a milestone for that combo he currently runs. I wish him well with it.
