Got some light scratches on my 69RR flat black hood from cat claws,any ideas on how to remove them, I know not to try and polish out like regular paint ? Thanks for your help

Not sure how to fix the damage that has already been done but I staked a pit bull in the yard close to my car & the cats stopped pissing on my tires/rims

Start by barring the cat from near your car.

Shoot (Choot the cat JR) the cat. and then you'll have to reshoot the hood

If the scratches are shallow enough, you may be in luck. I've had decent luck with Ajax cleanser and a wet towel. One drawback: You have to use it everywhere to maintain an even finish! You can't just scrub the affected area and hope that it blends.

FWIW I just got some "Rat Wax" that was advertised in the last MCG. Don't know if it will wax out scratches but it's designed to clean and seal flat black finishes. I will be trying it when it warms up.

Try Lucas quick mist spray wax and really work it in the finish I have successfully used this on scratches that were in regualr black finish. Also Nano wax good for similar scratch

Do you have any of the paint left that was used to spray the hood? If so I would use the pointed end of a round toothpick for a brush and very carefully try to fill the scratches. If you don't have any of the original paint get the closest match you can. After it drys thoroughly you should be able to blend it using fine scotchbrite and very gentle strokes. The key is not to get in a hurry and don't over do anything. It may not work, but so long as you don't go nuts and over do things it probably won't be any worse than it is now.

Is it a lacquer paint by chance? If they're really fine scratches I wonder if misting a coat of thinner on the whole hood would soften it enough to take the scratches out?

Flat black is IMO, impossible to repair by buffing or light touch up. A repaint more than likely.
I've wet sanded gloss black that my dog(s) messed up and it came out fine.

You can try all of the suggestions but if it is flat black organisol either stripes or entire hood there isn't anyway to touch it up, it has to be re-shot. Sorry but that's just the way this stuff is.
You try to scuff or blend anything on flat it won't work. Flat cannot be buffed, or spotted or touched up, or waxed.You will still see it.

After you repaint it be sure and get a good car cover. That will keep the cat from hurting your paint.
