I am looking at buying a Dana 60 out of a 1965 ford truck to use as the basis of a rearend I am building to replace the 8 3/4 in my car. My question Is would this rearend likely have a power lok as it is an early pre 1969 rearend, or did danas not change with the years like our 8 3/4's did? Is their an easy way to identify what style of posi is in this beast? Also I understand that the power lok is a clutch type "posi" unit. Does this mean the trac lok is a cone style unit? I've briefly searched google and the tech archives here and I can't seem to find all the answers I am looking for so I am turning to you guys. Thanks in advance, Dustin

yes the Power Loc is a clutch unit. It is the best between the 2. the drawback is the Fords used 16 spline axles. The Dodge one I had used 30 spline axles. The new spiders are around 150 to 200 a pair I hear.. check your measurements, sometimes a truck rear isnt wide enough when you cut the truck ends off.. good luck
I am truckless..

The Power Lock differential bolts together with small windows where you can see the spider gears. The Track lock is a one piece machined casting with big windows that you load the clutches through. I have one of each in my Kirkland garage, the Track Lock is worn-out and the Power Lock is supposedly fresh. The Power Lock is the stronger case of the two, they are both for the 3.54 to 4.10 gears and 30 spline axles. The Ford Dana should have 14 or 16 spline axles, weaker than higher spline count units, but that should be one of the first things you change anyway.

Trac lok's are junk, 1 set of spiders, weak clutch pressure, I burnt a new set of clutchs out in one night.

This particular rearend is a semi floater, not a full floater as was originally thought. This still gonna be ok as a core? I am going to check it all out tomorrow afternoon.
Gonna check : Date code on housing Verify its a power lock not a "trash lock" Big axle tube diameter
Anything else I should check or be aware of?
I really appreciate the help everyone has offered so far.
