This concerns the two wires on the external regulator (ER) on my '65 Coronet.

There are two wires to the external regulator, one is Ignition and one is Field. Am I correct to run the wire that is connected to the Ignition on the ER to the Denso "switched" connection? Disconnect the Field wire to the ER, remove ER, then ground the wire that was connected to the Field? I know the correct connections for the other two wires. The dummy light wire will not be used.

Electrical is not my specialty.

Isn't the other end of that field wire just hanging out in space now that you've removed the stock alternator? Unless I'm missing something, that entire wire can just be removed from the harness since it isn't connected to anything at either end.

OK, right. What's done with the field wire that is connected to the external voltage regulator?

This is how I wired my 120 amp Denso (I don't have a ballast resistor so "start" and "run" are wired together)

I have a bulkhead on the firewall. The bulkhead receives the power from the battery in the trunk and passes the battery power through the firewall to the starter, ign, etc. The in cab side of the bulkhead supplies power for power seats, etc. I have an external Mopar black regulator on the firewall

Or...I can remove the external voltage regulator then connect the two wires (Fld & Ign) that were connected to it and just connect the end that was to the old alternator to the "switched" spade on the new Denso?

Sure, the electricity won't know the difference.

The only confusing thing about that is that the color of the wire changes so it might mess someone up down the road when they are trying to figure out what hooks to what.

In the case of my car, the wires are both green. I just spliced them together.

If this car ever ends up in someone's else hands, they can learn just like I have to. Thanks for the help.
