ideas?
Pliers or vice grips with something around the nipple to protect it from the jaw serrations. It's NPT so dont forget the pipe dope on the threads. EDIT grip it with the pliers away from the outer end & in as close to the threads as you can but they are pretty stout pieces pretty much just a plumbers nipple with a lip to retain the hose & the slots for easy installation on the assembly line. You could cut a piece of metal to fit the slots if desired.

I use an old rod adjuster tool.It looks like a huge flat screwdriver that they used on old Jeeps etc.It tightened up the socket around the ball.Fits a ratchet. You can take a piece of steel and grind it so it looks like a big screw driver end.Fit it to the slots and go.Rocky

They really don't have to be all that tight Just apply some good pipe joint sealer to the threads and some slight pressure with slip joint pliers With a hose hooked to it where is it going to go? I have been a professional technician for over 30 years and the most common mistake I see is people OVER tightening fittings and fasteners. Good clean threads and the correct sealer Gus

I had a file thin enough to fit the slots in the nipple, put across the nipple long ways that is. Used that and a pair of pliers to tighten up the fitting enough.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

im sure there is a tool for this that fits in the slots.i need a homemade one, ideas?
I started with a six point deep socket and drove a piece of machined flat stock across two of the points inside and knocked it to the bottom of the socket. I think it may have been 5/8 that fit down on both nipples and didn't wobble. It doesn't mark up the fitting either. Picture if you need it.

Need a pic of this awesomeness!
11/16 6 pt Craftsman deep 3/8 drive, and machine steel, not flat stock. Flat stock is softer.
