Ron, I feel your frustration, Buddy! Looking at the tire charts, your current slick is 29.5 tall, 11.3 section width, and 9.0 tread. We ran a similar drag slick on my 67 Belvedere with no rubbing issues, but when we would switch to the 275/60/16 street tires my brother had on it, it would rub in corners, and when loaded. I didn't want to change tires on Drag Week 2012, so I went in search of a multi-purpose drag radial, and ran into exactly what you are talking about. My first concern was no rubbing, so I settled for Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag radials in the 255/60 size. The section width of 10.1 and tread of 9.0 are great, but they are miserably short at only 27.1! The 275/60 MT's are 28 tall 11.0 section, and 9.5 tread, so technically they should fit anywhere a 30X9 slick would, but I have seen guys really struggle to get that tire under many stock tub Mopars. What we really need are Drag Radials in a 70 series, but controling that large of a sidewall seems to be a problem for them.

The 255/60 M/T ET Street Drag Radial performed flawlessly on Drag Week, as They drove through a torrential rain on I-40, and maintained speed. On the drag strip, it never turned a tire, but the 67 leaves really soft, and only went 11.58-116.
My Valiant takes a big tire no problem. On Drag Week 2011, I couldn't make the 315/60 Drag Radials work on the track, but they made the drive, even in rain, just fine. In 2012 I changed shocks on all four corners, and went with a bias-ply Et Street, which is basically a slick with a couple of squigly lines. Great on the track, and great on the drive...until we hit rain! Then they were completely unsafe at anything over 25 MPH!!!
