Well my old 446 was a .030 over 440 with 906 heads and the MP .557 cam. It use a Holley Street Dominator intake and a 850 DP and was 10.0 comp. Ran fine on pump gas as I used the KB quench pad pistons to get quench. It also used 1-3/4 headers. I never dynoed it but it ran a best of 11.49 @ 116 in my 3700 lb 63. I would guess it was about 500 flywheel hp. Ron

U using a forged or cast crank? I built my 451 w a cast and clearancing needed was minimal, just a little grinding on the block. I didnt have the crank cut down and it was minimal work to balance with 440source Hbeams and Ross pistons.
Take care, Rick 68 Coronet R/T 440 & 68 Charger 528 Hemi,and 5 Challengers! 6 cyl, 318, 360, 383, 451

i am using a steel crank, and i am using the shorter 400 rod so i had to do some clearancing on the crank with the piston that i am using.
I just did a 400 block with KB quench dome pistons,Eddie heads and a
Racer Brown SSH-44. Haven't put it in yet but I know of a few others
with this combination and it works good.

Of course, when one compares that with the 250cfm STOCK peak flow from a 5.7Hemi head, it starts to look a little weak.
True. But if you're starting with a big block wedge powered truck it's probably less time & money to build a budget built, low reciprocating mass, 451 than a 3rd Gen Hemi. Or even if it's a smallblock now, the brackets, trans, etc are still cheaper.
Not trying to start sumthin', just sayin,!

truck already has a 440 in it,just wanting too try building a 451,i think it would/should be more FUN,the 440 is healthy, but i think the 451 should b more healthy.money is a restraint,so taking baby steps, little at a time, just upgrading a little.i have been accumulating parts for this build for a couple years, got the pistons rods and crank and block and heads, hopefully i'll find some more parts at the indy swap meet in march,oh yeah!

Low deck strokers are a great motor & yours should make some power, but in a 4x4, low end torque is a must, especially if you have big off road tires. Ask me how I know! I sold the 451 torque monster I built for my Barracuda & installed a 70 383 mag with a little smaller cam than yours (power band was 2500-6500), stock 906's, and with the 35x12.5x16.5 BFG's on my 71 Power Wagon (3.55's), street manners sucked! Low vacuum, lotta gas to get it rollin. Wasn't much fun. I just installed a small Comp cam & new 906's and its a different truck. If you've got 4:10's or lower & a stick, it might be more street friendly. Just my 2 cents. Your build should make 500 if the heads don't hold it back a little & should have mid 500's torque, too. Best of luck with your build.

Here is that book being mentioned. http://www.amazon.com/Build-Max-performa...dy+finkelbeiner I own a copy and have found it very useful. It should belong to any good library devoted to Mopar literature. Regards Ragnar in Iceland
