prior to attaching the Y, got the strut bar tied into the tubular subframe connectors

Ok... I'll ask... why did you bend the bar going down to the sub frame connector from the main hoop... normally thats a straight shot

It is welded directly too the subframe connector, it is designed that way to take steepnes out of the bar, it has a triangulated strut to spread the load and to ease fitment and welding... Does that answer your ?'s
