i am building a 500 stroker,4sd, 3:54, 440 in a 69 gtx. i see the performer rpm is not going to fit under my hood, i have a air grabber, but would delete it if it would fit? what manifold would you suggest to get the most hp? stealth heads, trying to keep stock looking, and around 550-600 hp range. may not be attainable with intake? thanks for input.

The holley street dominator should be able to handle it. It's pretty low.

if it is an rb block, i would use the indy 440-2d dualplane.it also sits very low.

while that is a great intake...I believe the Indy Dual plan is even taller than the RPM.

I don't have both side by side but I've used both manifolds and I believe the Indy 2-D is fractionally lower than the Edelbrock Performer RPM on a 440. Much bigger internally but lower at the carb flange.

Someone I'm sure has the dimensions but I'm 99% sure I'm correct, I can run a 5/8" spacer on the Indy and still close the hood of a 70 Charger, can't with an RPM

Bobby , what are you using for an air cleaner ? That's interesting as I would have thought the Indy would be taller

Actually, they are the same height, plus/minus an 1/8. I run the Indy with a 1/2" spacer

I have a 493 with Eddy heads and a Holley SD in my 69 GTX with the air grabber. No clearance problem. You will even have room for a 1/2 to 1 inch wood spacer to keep your fuel from boiling.
The SD performs VERY well. 3.73 gear 3900lbs runs 10.80 on pump gas full exhaust on Hoosier drag radials.

JohnRR,

Just a 14" drop base, need to go to a 16" though.

I think the 4402d ser's the carb just a hair lower than the RPM.

I will say for the original poster's question a ported Holley SD would work great, with work you can get the ports to flow ~320 cfm (~270 ish stock) the Sd is lower than the other 2

2X4 Edelbrock will fit. Mine was fine till I added the carb spacers. A drop base air cleaner from a Hemi will bolt right on but there's lots of alternatives. Just be careful of the center posts. Lots of hoods dented because they were to tall. I decided to go fiberglass, now I have lots of room.
