Buddy, I don't want to sound rude, but the deal here is simply. Althought lot of ppl has been told it doesn't worth and is better and easier simply replace it, he still ( for WHATEVER REASON ) wants to restore his existant pump.
if cheaper or expensive, harder or easier, faster or slower, IF ITS POSIBLE, like it is really, then why not?
If in fact I'm able to do it overseas on local shops, why not up there where you have all the parts in stock easier ?
I didn't rebuilt mine last time ( like I did before ) because all the local shops only had the 8 blades impellers and I wanted to use the 6 blades impeller this time. Found on ebay a original Mopar piece rebuilt, not correct year and cast though, but at least pentastar casted.

There is also a guy in Phoenix AZ that does it. He is not cheap, $150.00 for a pontiac water pump. IF you want his contact info just PM me.

Rebuit the one in my welding machine last year, tractor year before. Bearings can usually be found at a bearing supply. I use to get rebuild kits at napa, but that was a long,. long time ago. I think mopar parts are high until I buy perkins, duecth, etc. Heat & cold are your friend when disasembly/assembly. We have became parts changers, myself included, due to time, cost, don't want to. It's easier to go the parts house, pick up an overseas rebuilt part & install. Wait we hate overseas junk, never mind!

Yes, you can rebuild the pump yourself, or send it out to have it done. I own a couple of NAPA parts stores and we rebuild pumps in our shop based on $$ and availability. The common pumps you can buy cheaper as a factory rebuilt unit. We started doing them our self for the farm, and industrial pumps because of how $$ they are getting.
You can have your pump rebuilt by A-1 Cardone in Philadelphia pa. They probably do about 90% of the rebuilt water pumps for the automotive and light truck market regardless of who is selling it or what it say's on the box. If you don't mind spending around $100-$125 to have yours done, send it to A-1. If you have a press and some patients, you can buy the parts for around $30-$40. You just need to know where to look for the parts.

Sometimes we do stuff just because...I don't see the downside at least trying to rebuild your original. Worst case is you can't and end up replacing it anyway. I applaud you for trying. I also see another possibility with this. In some of the posts about cooling it's been suggested that distance from vanes to inside of housing effects cooling. Looking at a pump I have here it looks like that distance could be tweaked a bit depending on how far you pressed the vanes back on the shaft. It's a little outside the box but why not?

Well to be fair, the OP never said that he wanted to keep the original casting and he didn't care how much it would cost. I think most people just assumed that the OP didn't understand that a new pump is cheaper then getting an original one rebuilt.
Rebuilding a water pump isn't an easy task for the average person. You need a press and a set of press blocks which are correctly machined for the task. I have a very nice electric press in my shop and the ability to custom machine my own press blocks and I still wouldn't bother wasting my time rebuilding a water pump. (I've tried it before and failed which is why I don't bother anymore.)
I'd have to be retired with tons of time on my hand before I'd even consider rebuilding a water pump. I'd do it for a Hemi restoration project where I was keeping all of the correct casting numbers, but probably not for anything else.

WOAH!!!! we get shops making that job cheaper down here than the price of the new pump!!! or if not cheaper, more less the same price.
That Pontiac pump must be something special!
I don't think a Mopar BB water pump rebuild service will be close to that. I paid around $30 for the rebuilt water pump I got on ebay.
Not real special, 69 Firebird, but the pump was only made a year and a half. The aftermarket ones were coming with steel impellers, instead of cast ones, which would make the car run hot. We ended up using the original for 2 years, and ended up finding one at NAPA for around 40 bucks.
