BIG block water pump disassembly? - 12/29/12 01:23 AM
I want to rebuild my original big block water pump. Does anyone know how to take it apart? Thanks
Quote:Contact your local auto parts store, NAPA would be your best bet probally, and ask them if they can have yours rebuilt instead of just exchanging it I know there are, at least there use to be, commercial large volume rebuilders that would do that for a few dollars more than the standard over the counter rebuilt pumps, they where charging the extra for tracking that core internally and returning it back to that dealer
Thank you all for your input. Sounds like a no go. Can anyone recommend a shop that will rebuild my pump?

No sh!t !! It'll probably still be going 3 weeks from now !

The rebuilt parts store water pumps do not look at all like the original cast iron water pumps and do not have the same casting and date marks.
This is really a resto topic.
I'm sorry that people are too ignorant to understand someone else's perspective or opinions that do not match thier own.

I don't think the car was mentioned and I'm not going back through all the posts to make sure BUT unless this is one of the rarest Mopars ever made, keeping that original pump is just a load of BS !! Are the tires original? Hoses? Belts? Air filter?

There is also a guy in Phoenix AZ that does it. He is not cheap, $150.00 for a pontiac water pump. IF you want his contact info just PM me.

WOAH!!!! we get shops making that job cheaper down here than the price of the new pump!!! or if not cheaper, more less the same price.
That Pontiac pump must be something special!
I don't think a Mopar BB water pump rebuild service will be close to that. I paid around $30 for the rebuilt water pump I got on ebay.
