Was under the car the other day after I put the new gears in and re-adjusted the ladder bars. On the ground there isn't much room from the end of the driveshaft yoke to the end of the transmission tailshaft. How much clearance do I actually need?

Old rule of thumb was +- 2" with springs. I think with ladder bar or 4 link, you could get by with less than this. Have a Merry Christmas

If the tailshaft seal has a boot, 1/2" of slip yoke showing is plenty.
Mopar to the bone!!!

Yes it has a dust boot on it and the yoke is compressing it some at rest. When I got it back-halved the builder put in a bunch of pinion angle and I guess he did it to pull the driveshaft away from the transmission. I have corrected it and noticed how close they are now. I will measure it to make sure it has at least 3/4". Thanks for the help.

Take the driveshaft loose from the rear and see how much further it will slide into the tailshaft housing from where it is now, or measure from the cup to the yoke fully bottomed in the trans, sounds like you should be ok.
Light travels faster than the speed of sound,,,this is why some people seem bright untill you hear them speak.

The 2.5" dust boot.
Then you have Plenty of clearence. You stated at rest your yoke does compress the boot a little. So you have just under 2.5" clearence the way I measure. I measure from the yoke bottoming out into the tailshaft housing. With the 1/2" boot I like to see 3/4" to 1" clearence at rest.
IMO, on a race car you want as much yoke engagement as possible without it bottoming out on a launch.
Your just under 2.5" clearence is working for you and has with others. I wouldnt feel the need to get a new shaft. But I do like to see more engaugement then you have for a race car.
