I am restoring a 1968 GTX matching motor, matching trans, no build sheet or fender tag. Not worried about those things because it does have a matching numbers 440 and an 18 spline hemi trans which is also matching numbers. Here is the problem, we want to put this car back to original color but we can't tell what color it is! Here are a couple pictures of areas of the car, one looks turquoise the other looks blue. The turquoise is from the cowl and the blue is from the trunk.....anyone have any ideas?! I know the colors can be deceiving but the color in the trunk does seem to have a blue green hue to it, the one on the cowl is definatley turquoise in my opinion.

What color is the interior? Blue interiored '68 b-bodies had "U" upper door frame paint.

It looks like paint code U - "frost blue metallic" in Plymouth speak.
Here's a couple "U" painted Charger pics - some original paint spots.

Paint code K - "mist turquoise metallic" was a c-body ONLY color in '68.

Here's a Charger with original tired & worn L - "surf turquoise metallic" (again Plymouth speak).

I think it is U code as well. But that color on the cowl looks turquoise. Might just be 45 year old faded paint. As my wife would pick a blue color and paint it!!!!! LOL!!! She a chevy fan. I know I still married her!!!! What was I thinking!!!!Thanks Larry J

See if you can chip some undercoating off, if it has it, to reveal the color underneath.

The teal or turquoise color from the cowl is what is under the under coating?? The car has had 1 repaint. Someone painted orange and did not strip it so I have the blue color in the jambs and trunk. Which looks a little darker than U code almost looks like B5 blue? Then that teal color under the undercoating. The jambs and trunk are original color. Motor is date coded 8-1. So I think Q code is out. But it does look closer to B5 than mist or frost blue in person. I will try to send some pics of the jambs. We would like to paint it back to its original color. I know there is no build sheet or fender tag,but it does have a matching motor and trans. You don't realize how important those little fender plates are until you start restoring!!!!!!!!!! U code seems to be too light. I took some samples from online. I know thats not perfect science. But the B5 blue sample is almost perfect. What 68 plymouth color is close to B5 blue any??? I am going to pull something with the original color on it and take it to the local paint supply and see what they come up with.Thanks Larry J

Didnt use B5 in 68.QQ1 and its different,fresh example.

Only 4 blues for '68 B-bodies:

UU1 - light
QQ1 - medium
EE1 - dark
999 - Corporate (aka "Petty"), on a batch of RRs.

I realize B5 came in 69 I think? Just seams like it has a slight bit of bluish green then other places light silver blue?? I think its U code. Would the under coating change the color over time or preserve it?? Because when you take a little under coating it is without a doubt teal turquoise in color?? Thanks for all the response. Larry J

Behind the wiper motor or master cyl is sometimes a good spot to look.

If you plan to remove the windshield (A new gasket is a good idea) the paint under the old gasket should be pristine...

Been there its teal. As I said everything from the door jambs forward that was under coated is absolutely teal turquoise in color. But the jambs trunk behind the seat some of it looks like B5 and some u code. I know those areas have never been painted. The rear tail light panel has to be replaced. So I think I will cut 1 of the support braces off and take to the paint supply store and see if we can narrow it down. Thanks Larry J

Paint codes for 1968 were a single letter.

I bet all you guys that refer to paint codes like "UU1" say "dual field" alternator, too.
