I shift at 6,200 rpm. Rev limiter is set at 6,600 and I've bounced off it a couple of times. Chrysler claimed in their engine book that they are good for 7,000 rpm. I am not sure I would try this on a circle track or road race engine due to all the thrust reverseals. My crank is an original '79 CFD casting that is internally balanced and polished, but never turned, still standard size. It's also been in two different blocks and must have at least 300,000 miles on it by now. Chrysler had two different sources for 360 cranks. Both are cast, and most were cast in a Chrysler foundry. Some however were cast by GM for Chrysler and are identified by the letters CFD. Or at least that's what I've been told.
Hi there Hugh!!! Alot does depend on how the motor was built mainly valvesprings/cam pick and of course rod bolts . I have been with a guy who races and drives alot of 360 he can go in the 7 grand rang plus. I have seen shifts upwards of 7200 and he gets quite a few years out of a motor . Now i have ran 360 in my old street car and shifted @ 5800 mark drove that car for well over 13 years I built the motor in 1992, the motor was not even balanced!! That exact motor is still running to this day, Anytime you race one hard the life espectancy come into play,,but with care upkeep , that motor can run a very very long time !! But the biggest deal is to build it right

Used to shift at 7,500 and go through traps over 8,000 with a cast steel truck crank.
Career best 8.02 @ 169 at 3050# and 10" tires small block power.

8000 rpm with 550hp is alot different than 8000rpm with 650hp. And those shot peened truck cranks were great cranks.
Mopar to the bone!!!
