Well my car is finally going in for color tomorrow and I want to make sure the body shop shots the areas correctly. are their areas that need to be blacked out behind the grille or any other spots that should be blacked out or should it all be color? thanks

Well I know there is a black out panel on the inside of the doors near the rear edge. Ill take pictures of my original paint car that sat since 1979.
For the absolute best powder coating go to J.I.T powder coating, contact infomation is in my personal profile..

Also, don't forget the often overlooked part of the hood. The vertical pinchweld at the leading edge is also painted black along with the portion of the fenders behind the bumper... You can see here on my former survivor '71 Charger R/T what I'm talking about.

I'm sure you guys know that the door gets painted what ever color the door panels are. If the car has white interior the door gets painted white as well.
I don't mean to be contrary, but I beg to differ! My car is a white interior car (factory) and the doors are painted black (original). I think that would be true on second gen's but not what I'm seeing on third gen's.

I don't know what to say other than "That's Chrysler for ya" My 71 Super Bee that is factory white interior had the doors painted white. I'm sure if I looked around the garages/barns I could take some convincing pictures.
Another location that comes to mind that gets blacked out is the tab on the trailing edge of the fender where there is the strut that goes to the firewall. Also done with a brush

Does anyone have a more detailed picture of the hood blackout?
Here's a photopage from Johnny's 71 webpage. www.71superbee.com
In the below link, you'll see the blacked out portion of the hood. I will try and find the pictures of my '71. Also, don't forget the blacked out treatment of the pinch weld down the length of the rocker panel to floor pan.

Thanks Troy!
No problem... And if you want to be as close to OEM as possible, the blacked out treatment on the hood's leading edge AND the rocker pinch was actually done with a brush. On my survivor, I could still see the brush marks..

Here is a good shot from the "Motor Trend car" owned by Tim Wellborn. It's one of the best examples you can find on the Net I think.

Perfect... As you can see, it wasn't the "cleanest" of application. In a nutshell, when you look towards the grille from the front, you shouldn't see any body color..... Some people like the "clean" look of fresh paint and not blacking anything out, but I think it distracts from the over all look of the car. The designers knew what they were doing..... Now, remember the fenders got the same treatment just behind the bumper, but only on the top-horizontal portion of the fender recess, not the vertical.
Here's another image.. http://www.71superbee.com/71ChargerRTRegistry/Tim_Wellborn%20FE5/image_32.html

Thats too funny Troy.. I owned each of the R/T's in both of the links you posted. I've been thinking of purchasing the Sixpack one back again...for keeps this time.

I'd love to get my Survivor '71 back... I would like to contact him again and see "what-if"... It is in New York now... Good luck on the quest to get your v-code back, great car..
