Body shop removed trunk torsion rods to paint car. When it came back, I place the rods back in the car with NEW sliders on the ends. Now when I close the trunk there is a MAJOR popping sound and after about 5 closes, the rod pops out of place and the slider get thrown off. What is wrong with this?

A pic would help. Sounds like the rods are in correctly.
Yes grease the sliders but that shouldn't make the rods pop out.

Not sure if this helps, but one rod is Left, and one is Right. They aren't interchangeable. Here's a photo of '69 A body rods with non-slider application. The rod on the left of the photo is a Left rod.

Factory assembly, left side, of a 69 A body with non-slider application. (This is a one-owner car never taken apart until after this photo.)
