When the motor let go last year and since the trans was out of the car, I sent it in for an inspection only trying to catch any problems before they happen.. Well the trans guy comes back and says it needs this.. and it needs that.. and we ended up getting a complete freshen up on the trans..

One year later, we put the trans in and there is no fluid circulating... the TC level is the same and there is no fluid in the cooler and we have no forward or backwards gears.. So the trans came out and is now at the trans shop for inspection..

When we dropped it off, the one thing the trans guy says is kinda sticking with me... "It could be the pressure regulator"... except the trans was working 100% fine when it was last pulled and having the inspection done was only a precaution..

Since I know very little about how a trans works, what are some of the things I should be prepared for when I stop in later today to check on its progress..

Thanks in advance..

Though we are on the right coast, you can ask my friend who's father is probably the best Trans guru in the nation.
Curt is his name and Curt Sr. will be the answer guy.
Post me on mail and I'll get you in contact with him.

You should be prepared for "We took care of it for you, no charge."

Unless of course the converter wasn't fully seated and you broke the pump gear.

Good luck to you.

I probably should have stated that in my first post.. the converter was seated properly and the two tangs on the pump are ok..

Sounds like the front trans pump was dry from sitting, and then did not pick up the fluid thus no pressure.

Pump rotors need oil or some lube to start working

pump should pickup oil if it's lightly oiled or not. maybe he forgot to put the filter on or the spacer if u have a deep pan.

That was my first thought too after I read your converter was seated and no tangs broken on the converter or pump.

Could you hear any buzzing coming from the VB area?

I was always told to start a fresh 727 in neutral, then go into forward, then reverse. A 727 doesn't actually pump in Park. That's why it says to check level in neutral. Anybody that does a 727 rebuild, knows how to pressure check everything before they put the valve body in. The valve body itself, or casing could of cracked from being over tq'ed. Or it could of been warped and not setting flat if tightend wrong. A valve sticking in the VB or things of the sort. I would of thought one of the pro's would have chimed in for you by now. The wrong type of seal will also cause havock. I am just a novice, but 40 yrs playing with mopars and watching friends build them has been a plus. Seen lots of times a 50 cent o ring will stop it dead

if the engine is running, the trans pump is pumping.

im pretty sure it doesnt circulate in park. A chevy does, but a 727 doesn't. It may be pumping, but to somewhere, the level will not drop. It is the same in park as with the engine turned off. It will read over full.

if the valve body was not oiled and the unit sat a yearthe pressure regulator valve could be stuck .if it is stuck open you will not have line pressure or converter charge.a little piece of metal etc could stick the valve.hope this helps.

We got the trans back from the shop today.. The owner told me he could not find anything wrong and he said he checked everything real close..

The one thing we both noted is the Red Line synthetic trans fluid we used turned from a strawberry soda look... into a cloudy milky strawberry soda..

I figured the oil probably aerated and it was actually foamy.. but I guess thats not the case.. The trans guy said thats common when water is introduced, but there is no way water can get into the trans as it has a separate trans cooler..

Anyways, we're putting the trans in tomorrow and we'll see what we'll see..

Start the car in park first and then go right to nuetral, then go through all the gears and back to reverse and wait for the transmission to kick into gear. Make sure your level is right at the add 1 pint line when running cold.
I had the same problem and found the o ring on the filter was not seated correctly on the valvebody causing the transmission to suck air.Make sure you got enough fluid.
Your fluid should not look milky unless he used the wrong band on your drum.

How would using the wrong band cause the fluid to turn milky? and what is the right band?

never heard of that one. the only way fluid will look milky is water intrusion or a cooler failure.
