i have the kendall gt 1 20w50 oil is that good oil for the break inn period?

also i have a break inn oil additve from lucas:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail...mp;autoview=sku

but here in the netherlands i heard that the lucas additive is not good . it can cause little air bubbles in the oil

i want to know for sure what i must use , i don;t want to destroy my engine on the first start..

thanks

I would go ahead and use the Lucas and the Kendall. I believe the Lucas helps.

I broke mine in with Valvoline VR1 and a bottle and a half of ZDDP Plus. So far it looks like my colid cam has lived. I also used GM's EOS for bearing and other assorted assembly lubrication.

Never seen a problem with Lucas in Real Life ! Never seen foamed up lubricant with it. Don't know how Bob manages it, but remember,He is just showing you his web site test. Who knows what is going on for real in his test ?

Depends on how old the GT 1 is.If it is green it is the good stuff,if not it is just plain oil sold under the Kendall name. The Kendall name has been sold twice and is now owned by Conoco-Philips in Houston,TX.The Kendall refinery in Bradford,PA is now owned by Brad Penn and is still producing the original GT 1 under their name. Here is the link, read the history. You will also find the Grade I racing oil has as much or more zinc than anything else on the market.

Too many opinions, and some of the guys are a little paranoid. I still say use your Kendall with the Lucas. You are using a high quality oil with a break in additive ! Go for it !

I used any SL rated oil i can find and a bottle of crane cams break in lube.I also was told to overfill the oil buy a quart or 2 to help the crank sling more oil around, in hopes of splashing more oil on the cam.(Just for break in)I have broke in 3 cams this way and have not had a problem.

I am going to try that(extra qt or 2). I think that's an excellent idea. I also think it's critical for there to be enough lifter/bore clearance for the lifters to spin. I check during mockup by cleaning bore/lifters, then lube with WD40 raise lifter off a lobe with my finger & let go & should fall onto the lobe with a definite thunk rather than slowly sliding down. Also I was impressed with this. Read the "breakin secrets" at www.mototuneusa.com
