I ran an "Offenhauser" tunnel ram on my car with a set of 660 Holleys for a bit before switching over to the M1 Tunnel ram. The M1 ran leaps and bounds better than the Offy. Is the M1 that much better than Offy or is the Offy just for bigger motors or what? My combo is a stock 73 440 bottom end, 7.8:1 compression, 295/557 Purple cam, 906 heads w/template porting, 1 7/8" headers. 3500 stall, 4:30 gears and 3760 w/driver. 12.30's @ 109 was it's best with the M1 tunnel ram. Should I give the OFFY another chance or is it always going to be a 2nd best?

M1 will outperform the Offy imo. That's an odd combination! 12.30 isn't too shabby ?

Bump up your compression and put a pair of 750 double pumpers on it sideways, you'll love it then! Or for even more eye appeal, machine the top plate for the Dominator pattern and put on a pair of 750 Dominators.

is the offy 180 a low dual carb setup?
a member here, TJ Marcus has a very strong running 440 with the offy tunnel ram
I run a weiand and love it

It's substantially taller than the M1 and looking at it I don't know why it didn't work better. I was wondering if maybe my motor is to mild to utilize the Offy as it was designed? All I know is when I put the M1 on it was the fastest the car had ever gone. Swap meet weekend is coming up and I was just trying to decide whether or not it was time to send that Offy to a new home.
As far as the carbs go I will be trying some 750's next. I am going to be bumping the compression up this winter with some stock 1969 pistons so I'll be anxious to see how much that helps as well. Gotta love budget motors.

With your compression being 7.8 - 1 why would you think you need a tunnel ram and dual 660's?
I had them laying around, they look cool and it made the car over a tenth quicker....

something else was wrong like a vaccum leak. i would bet the offy is faster than the M1. I wouldn't sell it

Okay, you win. I'll give it another shot. If it goes slower than the M1 though you owe me a set of intake gaskets.

It's been shown in tests that the M1 and Weiand are far better than the offy.

I've had an Offy 360 tunnel ram for years. It has two Holley 650 carbs off a 350HP 68 Chrysler 440. For some reason that intake/carb combination has been the fastest intake I've put on just about anything from bone stock 440's to my old 10 second Dart. I'd never even change jetting moving it from motor to motor. I tested it back to back on my Dart with an M1 tunnel ram and the Offy was faster. It doesn't make sense but it is what it is.
