I am planning to build a 400 block into a 500 inch stroker and would like to get some opinions or ideas from some other.

Mopar 400 block will clean up ar 4.375 bore aluminum main caps and 1/2 to 3/4 fill
Shooting for 13-13.5 comp ratio
I already have an eagle 4.15 crank
6.65 aluminum rods 2.375 big end and standard 1.094 pin size
I believe piston comes out to 1.23 comp height in a low deck will have pistons cut to work with heads/ compression ratio
Indy 400-2 intake with spacer
E-85 1050 dominator
magnafuel 500 pump
cometic MLS head gaskets?
Ati damper?

All of those parts I already have or will have. So I basically need heads rockers and cam setup.
I am thinking of just buying nice heads the first time.
Full port indy -1s probably 75cc
Would it be worth it to go to the large 2.25 intake valve? How much does it cost on average?
custom headers
T&D rockers 1.5 or 1.6 depending on cam
Solid roller cam maybe low to mid 700 lift duration? either the comp .705 roller or maybe get a cam cut
Shooting for about 800 on motor

1 kit on the fogger full 300
or 150 on a fogger and 150 on a plate depending on what the car hooks best with.

Car will be all steel dart glass bumpers and hemi scoop. Mini tub caltrac car on maybe some 29.5x13.5 or what will fit. built 727 and ford nine inch 3.90 or 4.10 gear

Any opinions are welcome or ideas of what you would do.

Cody

Cody, my 500 cube package was 440-1 heads cut to 62 cc to give 13/1 compression and still use a shelf flat top piston for best flame travel. I had basic bowl work on the heads at the time I ran them on the 500 shortblock and the car went 9.34 at 144 mph at 3,000 lbs using a single four intake with adapter to use a dominator carb. The adaptor/ plus small holley intake manifold allows leaving the runners longer than in a Dominator manifold.
These same heads are now on my 528 making 900 hp after full porting.
I would go for a 1.65 to 1.7 rocker ratio to gain lift at the valve. This motor is going to need some rpm (7500) to run its' best so if you can put it in the budget go with Titanium intake valves for longer life.

8..603 156 mph best, 2905 lbs 549, indy 572-13, alky

Get the -1's cnc ported from modern. Have him get the dedicated cnc castings so you can get his 350 cc runner version with the 2.25 valve. Then he can cut the heads for the needed chamber volume for your pistons and you can the run the mls head gasket as it needs a fine finished cut so they seal properly. Unless your wanting 1.7 ratio or more I probably would stick with a set of harland sharps rockers 1.6 to save the need for additional machine work on milling the original rocker stands down. Then you can run the external oil lines to the heads with a .040-.060 restrictor. It would save you from having to run spraybar valve covers, unless you got pushrod oiling which is what the t&ds are made for.

I run the 345 cnc -1s on my 500 with methanol injection. Went 9.16 @ 145. 345s are too big for a 500 cid gas setup but I never fooled with E 85.

I would run the 325cnc on a 500 cid gas setup.

On my 500" 400 block, I used the BCR aluminum caps and girdle, nice stuff. 4.15" stroke, 6.76" rods, and Flat top pistons (440 source kit.) I used Victor M/W heads so my compression is about 12.4:1. I would use the Indy heads. I have been fighting issues with the Victors rocker stands breaking.
I only have a 4150 HP 1,000 cfm on the Indy 400-2 intake and the engine seems to want more carb, but that is the one I had from the old 451 engine.
I used the ATI dampner too. It may cause alignment issues with the pulleys you use. Andy F makes a nice 3/8" pulley spacer that I used with a March pulley system for a Fluid dampner.
I used a Comp solid roller 264/264 @ 0.050" HXL lobes, 1.6:1 rocker arms for 0.714" lift. The cam is OK for a street/strip car, but is all done at 6,100 RPM. I am looking at going with a larger cam after having the heads flowed.

Thanks for the responses.
I looked into the victor heads with a max wedge port they seem to flow pretty good numbers when ported not sure if the air speed is there. Still undecided but the 440-1 heads with the 325 intake seem like the best choice at the moment.

Thanks, Cody
