No...Not bolting the heads to the block will result in less bore distortion....Bolt a torque plate down to the block and torque it, and at least check it! If outs out a bunch, re-hone it.

"Long story short" means I'm not going into the history of why this block was re-honed w/o the plate. If it wasn't done then, it's not going to happen now that I'm already reassembling the bottom end.
The "new build in progress" 451 on the engine stand a few feet from the 452 has been "done right" in that respect and will be the long-term replacement.
I'm simply looking for a way to minimize the bore distortion issue as I put the 452 back together as the interim solution to get the Challenger running again.

Heads will be torqued the same with ether gasket. Since the fasteners do the majority of the distortion I would say take your pick.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Seems to me that every time someone gives you a sensible reply you come up with another reason to use the MLS gaskets. So I'd suggest you make yourself happy and go ahead and use them.
In many cases, a "sensible reply" is simply PLR (Path of Least Resistance). I'm trying to determine if there is a legit benefit to the idea, rather than just throwing on what I have on hand.
The first replies said it wouldn't make a difference, but I found out elsewhere that it could. So now I'm still wondering if it will make enough of a difference to bother with.
What makes me happy is knowing that I've made a good decision based on the knowledge I have available at the time.
