Thanks guys, I talked to 1350cfm and he convinced me I needed a bigger hammer I had the master cylinder off of the car and thought it might have a wire clip but it turned out to be the rubber "square-ring" as you said. I clamped the pushrod in a vice and seeing it was an old master cylinder tried at first with a plastic mallet but no go and that's when I thought I should ask if it does come out. When Mike assured me that it does come out "I got a bigger hammer" Also the next time I'm going to soak it with some silicone or soapy liquid so I don't tear the sharp edge....like I did. The square ring measures 1/2"-od, 1/4"-id and 1/4"-wide if anyone wants to know and the local auto parts doesn't have one Thanks again. MikeR

Those can be a bear to remove...
This method has worked for me, however it is only recommended for taking the rod out of a cylinder that you plan to junk, because the aluminum piston may not survive. Take the piston out with the rod. Heat the rod. Dont go crazy, just enough to soften the o ring up. Back the piston up in the vise and put a long 3/8 extension perpendicular in the circular end that attaches to the pedal. Give it a good pull with both hands and you are done.

If you can find a master cylinder rebuild kit, I think it comes with a new pushrod retainer?
Yes it does.

I've never seen a pushrod retainer sold separately? I wonder if there's a p/n for one?
think 1/4" vacuum line a pair of scissors

Think "wondering why you listened to poor advice and your vintage mopar is now totalled and your feeling glad no one died in the accident" There is NO vacuum hose in existance that I could find that was the correct durometer, outside diameter or inside diameter. Sorry, vacuum hose has it's place, but not as a major safety componant. We're talking about brakes here people, not washer solvent squiters.
