I have read around quite a bit, I have also been to MANY carlisle events, and have even resorted to image searching on google.

All I can seem to dig up is that the antenna on 70 Challengers were located on the front passenger fender. The TA models had them on the rear passenger quarter.

The question? Why do I have an antenna hole on the drivers rear quarter? the hole looks factory-stamped and the quarter has not been replaced (only repaired). Has anyone seen this before?

thx...

What is the radio code on your fender tag or broadcast sheet?

What is the hood code?

What is the scheduled production date?

IIRC - when the period that shaker hoods were on back order for '70 Challengers, T/A fiberglass hoods were installed in their place, and the antenna was then mounted at the rear instead of on the fender...just like a T/A.

I think that's just a rumor, and not quite all entirely true. Even if it were, the antennae would be on the passenger quarter like a T/A, Not on the drivers quarter.

I have heard of this drivers quarter antennae on a couple cudas. I don't think it's factory. More than likely the car was ordered without a radio and then an aftermarket unit was installed. Stereo shops also had tools to cut antennae holes, not just factory workers.

The most probable explanation is aftermarket, maybe even a CB antenna "Good Buddy".

FWIW the 4 known '70 N94 non-T/A Challengers
May built HEMI - no radio
June built HEMI - no radio
July built 340 - R35 ant. on RT fender
July built 383 - R11 ant. on RT fender

I dont think so... if it IS a aftermarket hole, then whoever punched the hole did a damn good job. The hole even has the 'ears' on the sides.

I have my fender tag in my hand. my radio code is R11...suggesting a musicmaster am radio.

I cant find evidence anywhere else in the car that body panels have been replaced (only repaired).

...silly dodge :P

Just at a glance at this post, I might have missed it said already, but the rear antenna location on the 70 T/A's were on purpose, a lesson learned on the 69 1/2 road runners & Bees with fiberglass hoods which encountered a lot of radio signal interference that would normally be shielded from the steel hood.

I have a pic of an original location of antenna on a 69 1/2 RR but I'm apparently too stupid to figure out how to make the pic small enough to go this site...

Anyone needs the pic just drop me a line and i'll email it to you.

As to your original question Why is there a hole in the drivers side? Well, it was, after all , the 70's - maybe the previous owner added it to hang the all too common for the time Racoon Tail so he could look in the rear view mirror and watch it a flappin in the wind. Not helpful? sorry.

This is a myth actually. The Shaker hoods were available again on the Challenger R/Ts before the T/A hoods were available.

Back to the original poster, it sounds like the hole was added at some point.

well, i did take a closer look, and the hole does appear to be an add-on (thanks for the hints, fellas). I suppose I'll have to pull off the fender and look for a filled hole.

there must be a filled-in hood on the fender OR they were replaced...

cheers
