Has anyone compared et/performance by removing choke horn on a standard 850 dp (4781?) with no other changes?

i didnt notice a thing on my 10.50 et car.its the only thing i did.i put a 1050 8896 dominator on it and picked up to 10.40.but i think the 850 was way to small to begin with.

All I remember is that there was a change(slight)
but I cant remember the numbers... that was years ago
when I cut the carb... still using it now on my
418 engine

The biggest improvement I remember was a 20-30 cfm gain..........

Looking at the pic,,are you running this carb/pan set-up now?? Is it working OK? If it is working OK now, I might not take the tower off. It appears that without the choke tower, your carb is going to be the same height as the pan and hood scoop opening. The tower might be saving you from problems right now.

Haven't run any ET tests, but the 4781 on my Duster sits like the OP's photo, has a milled choke horn, and I've had no problems. Milling the choke horn off improves CFM and feeds air into the carb more efficiently than having it shrouded by the choke tower. I wouldn't expect much ET out of it, but I'd bet the MPH would pick up a little from the improvement in mixture distribution.

Why waste your time on that small block carb............get a Dominator and be done with it........
