They are installed near the front of the leaf springs on each side of the car. I do not understand where these shields should be mounted? Can anyone show the correct location.. Bad picture but maby someone knows?

Just an FYI - the 70 models use a strap with a slightly different design than the 71-74 models.

The later style will bolt up and fit but it is something to know if looking to find a set of originals.

Here is photo of the later style fuel / brake shield

Note the extra step in the metal strap opposite the bolt hole. When installed this design allows the shield to fit better over the lower pinchweld area.

I do not know exactly when the switch over occurred. However in my experience the shield without the step was used on 1970 cars and also some 1971 models. I have seen the later style (with step) starting on the 71 model and then definitely from 72-74.

I concur with that Chas.

Original post by 71redcuda at the top of the page appears to be the exact shields used for 1970 (mine is a March 70 build).
Unless there is a slight dimensional difference in flange length, those would be 70 brackets

I was hoping for a little better picture of '70 showing the side without the "step".Or were the repops patterned after the '70,no step brackets?

Here is a photo of the early shield used on 70 e-bodies.

Compare it to the other photo in my previous post and the difference can be clearly seen.

The examples of the parts that I have provided are both factory originals not reproductions.

This may or may not be the case with all vendors but the reproductions that I have seen are patterned from the later style shield with the step.

Chas-Thanks for the addition photo and info on the brackets.Always a good day when you learn something new. It's tough to tell from the angle of your last picture, but is there a short, straight leg opposite the leg that has the bolt hole or is it just cut off flush? Thanks again for the help.

I have some originals that have the spangled galvanized finish.
