Here is an actual pic of the alternator mounted in my car, I was thinking about connecting the #2 terminal on the alt. to the output lug just as it shows in the pic.......although the instructions say go to the + battery terminal
havent yet decided what to do with the #1 lug on the alt., I considered connecting it to the starter relay lug, when I hit my on/off switch at the back of the car the starter relay turns "hot"
The wire you want to hook up to the power OUT I wouldnt mount there(it will have a high voltage reading that ISNT what the battery will be).... move it farther away... thats the sense wire... the one you dont have a wire on is the 12v to trigger the alt

I understand what your saying....when the alt does send amperage it will also be sending full charging amps right through that wire directly back to the "sense" wire...I was told 63 amps worth is that correct to think that............but on the other hand wont it be getting the same amps sent to it if it was connected at the batt., albeit further away...20 feet there and back really
No... if you pick up the reading right at the out put will be seeing about 14.5 volts... now the alt thinks the battery is 14.5 volts and reduces the output so you could end up with about 2 or more volts low at the battery... I have a solenoid to turn on alot of stuff in the engine compartment and I take that voltage to sense with is sorta low after the solenoid that gives me 14.8 volts at the battery

That is not a one wire alt. That looks just like a standard GM alt with an internal voltage regulator. The only wire a one wire alt needs is the 12 volt output wire. The wire they tell you to hook a resister to is normaly ign voltage from the ign switch. It uses the voltage flow on a stock GM that goes thru the alt lite on the dash and a resister in parellel with the lite to exite the field when it starts. The other small terminal #2 should nbe 12 volts at all times. A one wire alt self exites the field when it starts turning and uses the alt output volts to set the internal regulator volts also. If you use it I would just hook the small wire #1 up to ign voltage and use a voltmeter in the car to monitor charging volts. If you hook the small wire # 1 to 12 volts hot you will drain the battery with the key off as it will be feeding the alt field with the key off. Or as Mr P says you could use a solenoid to kill both with the key off and then you could hook the small wire to battery volts. Ron
